my qualm with this is that it emphasizes muscle over first developing correct structure and body mechanics. If you work on muscle alone you will be able to deliver a firm punch. But only so long as you stay strong. By the time you're 70 the effort wont amount to much, because muscle breaks down as the metabolism slows. CIP: Muscle needs to support correct structure, it should not be the other way round. Otherwise you are building sand castles.
More on Sensei Mike Reeves: He is a nine-time International Sport Karate Association World Karate Champion, as well as a four-time Guinness-certified world record holder in breaking. He has worked as a professional bodyguard as well as a martial arts instructor to key members of both local and federal law enforcement agency SWAT teams and other special operations units.
This man has the knowledge from experience. Pick up his DVD to learn his chosen methods.
i was expecting more about kinetic linking, throwing your hips over, pivoting the foot, and the difference between Wing Chun/JKD, Karate and Western Boxing punches... but i did like the overall teaching on the importance of fitness and muscular coordination and strength.
@SenseiGrove Thank you for the comment SenseiGrove. The full-length DVD is no doubt more comprehensive than this short clip. This is a basic, fundamental lesson offered to generate interest in learning more about punching power from a four-time Guinness-certified world record holder in breaking.
