I love Tales as much if not more than FiM. I grew up with MLP Tales, and the personalities of the main girls in this are reminiscent in FiM.

Same with Rainbow Dash. She was G1 Firefly. Firefly was Brave and adventurous. But because of trademark issues, she ended up as Rainbow Dash.

So basically the ponies in Friendship is Magic are G1 ponies with G3 names.

Just to be 100% perfectly clear I LOVE Friendship is Magic, I LOVE the characters, I LOVE the art, the animation, the humor, EVERYTHING.

This show, MLP Tales, on the other hand, is simply watchable. Meh. Okay. Not bad, but not truly good, either.

FiM is not cynical, violent or grimdark. Everything bad I said about it was pure sarcasm.

@Pruefan26 I don't know, the first series (with Megan etc.) was made in 1986, so perhaps by the time this one came out six years later, Hasbro felt they had to "update" it by having the ponies live in a more humanised world? The basic character shape looks similar in both series, its just the way they act that makes them so different. I love Pony Tales - I still use the name 'Lancer' on various MLP internet forums as he has always been my favourite character. :)

I hink maybe these ponies live in a diffrent part of ponyland to other g1 ponies because in the episode UP UP and away Patch met the glowing magical ponies who where in the g1 comic books

@Pruefan26 When I was a kid, I actually drew a map of what I believed Ponyland would look like and had these ponies living in a town called 'Paradise Land' which was far away from Dream Valley where the little ponies from the first series lived! Lancer has always been my favourite from this show, followed by Sweetheart. I love them all though! :)
