I've worked with dogs for years and totally agree with tailsticks. Roscoe acts like a prisoner. His body language says "Let me outa here". No eye contact, leaning away from the Suryia. I just see cruelty to Roscoe and wonder what will happen as Suryia gets older and stronger. I would want to see this in person to be convinced that this is not a setup.
@horsescanter An animal (in this case a dog) can be trained to do things that they don't necessarily want to do - I think you are questioning this comment made by @SuperDogluv? If a dog is trained to "go with" a person, another animal etc., they can and will do it, even if they do not enjoy doing it. That's what we are both saying - read the dogs body language and no eye contact, he is doing what he is told - but he is not enjoying it. This is trained and NOT a natural interaction.
@tailsticks perhaps he was just breaking the laws of nature because he liked the orangutan and his fun company. I mean if you think about it people go out of their way to make friends with strange animals too that show affection.
As an animal trainer I have watched this video over and over and this is the most fake and staged animal interaction I have ever seen, and I cannot believe that NatGeo fell for it. The dog is trained to "stay with" the Orang. The dog is totally avoiding the Orang for every clip (with the exception of one), he avoids eye contact and looks like he just wants to leave and stop getting mauled by the Orang. Fake, totally fake.
@tailsticks - I don't care how long you've been an animal trainer. I suppose, though, as an animal trainer, you've had your own experiences with "training" animals to do what they don't want to do. Must be a nice living. How do YOU sleep at night training animals to do something they aren't likely to do naturally? Guess you don't have a problem with that, huh?
@Jody07984 - Its okay for you to assume that's how I train animals, as you don't know me. I can assure you though, I do not subscribe to the "force" method of training. This is old school. From being in this business for as long as I have, you are bound to hear stories of these "old school" methods. I am sure there are trainers out there that still use force - I do not - but I do know what it looks like, and this video, and the dogs behavior is a classic example of force being used.
@username7046 "Doc" Antle is not a doctor. In fact, he's a fugitive in many countries due to animal abuse and poaching charges. Dislikes probably come from that, not this cute propaganda video itself.
@MrToddforever only when they are small, when they become adults, they can become very ornery and are many times stronger than the strongest man on earth.
Reason #2,921,431 why dogs are better than cats. Oh, and I totally loved that part where the monkey forced the dog's mouth open to eat and closes it. ADORABLE!
is there any scientific evidence for why dogs and orangutans get along so well? this is not the first time i have such wonderful interactions between the two species =)
We may not see many more films like this in the future if their habitat continues to be destroyed. Support your local non-profit, and let's keep them from going extinct.
Not only does this wonderful relationship transcend species, it's as if these two critters have known each other in other lives. That would help explain the instant bond they formed at first sight. I know that's true with humans, so why not be true with other animals as well? Long live Surya and Roscoe in this life and the next!
@willcostello1 You* Nerd* First, I'm proud I'm a nerd so I can spell things correctly and actually use grammar. And second, I don't understand how my dream of working with animals gives you the idea that I'm a nerd in the first place.
So, your little comment to try and hurt me backfired because your opinion doesn’t matter to me and your hurtful comment doesn’t affect me.
THIS IS OFFICIALLY THE CUTEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN! Especially when Suri hugs the dog and smiles and when Suri puts the food in her mouth and then opens the dogs mouth so they both chew on the food from opposite ends!! OMG so smart animals!
OMG. The markings on Rosco are so similar to my own dog. She is very fear aggessive, but when she find someone she likes she...love love loves them like this. It is rare and beautiful when it happens.
Animals are so amazing, we can take a few lessons from them...so precious hon....MORE.. MORE.. MORE..
I tried to get on u tube but they already have me down as someone else and I do not want to be responsible for what they do on it...so please when you send to friends think of your old auntie...I mean young auntie...
these two animals must 'have known each other in a past life"...for it's as if they have known each other forever even the first time they meet...aside from that, good God, what we could learn from these animals...love, care, compassion, non-prejudices, peace, etc. etc.
not to sure about that orangutan all over that dog like that....i would worry about the dogs safety and one should never ride a elephant.... how they are " tamed " is ANIMAL ABUSE!!
@godessbast so you looked up on the net or where ever and saw how wild elephants are "tamed" and you dont think its animal abuse...ok thats your opinion just like my opinion after seeing footage of the same thing as cruel and abuse to the elephant....but of course if you didnt research elephant " taming" and just made your statement regarding me ?? with nothing to back it up then you just a babbling idiot
@squeaky00 Have you ever seen this animal in peson? I've visited the facility, she's healthy and thriving and has an amazing relationship with her caregivers. Sitting behind a computer regurgitating someone else's unfounded opinion is not "research." I'm guessing you care about animals. Perhaps you should do some REAL research and learn the true motivtion behind pure hate for animal/human interaction.
@godessbast sigh ..i have done "research" thats why i said taming of wild elephants is animal abuse you apparently didnt do research ...so you are lazy and uninformed ...i will not keep repeating my self....unfounded opinion? who am i suppose to be " regurgitating"?? ....never mind i dont really care ....goodbye
@squeaky00 I've stated my sources. I saw the elephant for myself. she's fine You speak of research? What credible source are you offering to prove this animal is abused?
@godessbast. Look, I don't care if the elephant gets hugs and kisses everyday. It is a wild animal and belongs in its natural habitat. Now, I don't know the circumstances, perhaps it was rescued, I don't know. However, under most circumstances, non-domesticated animals should be left in their environment where they can interact with with their species, come and go as they please, and roam as far as they wish.

I don't like this because, I can see that the orangutan is hurting the dog. He pulls his
jaw back, and is very aggressive when he is squeezing him. You can see it in this poor dogs face. He is scared. I hope this dog is not being used for the purpose of something for a toy for orang. Not fair, and shame on you National Geographic!!!
These two critters are actors in a movie. Watch their faces and expressions. They are not friends. They are doing what an off camera trainer tells them to do. Good grief!
This basically proves that orangutans (and chimps) should be considered a subspecies of human. The fact the orangutan understands the concept of sharing is amazing.
They are essentially early versions of us. We need to protect these wonderful creatures from becoming extinct.
@braztaz I remember a chimp in New York that tore the face off a woman, bit off all her fingers, left her blind and handicapped and screaming.... yep, they're early versions of us all right. I agree we need to protect them, but I don't recommend putting them in elementary school with the kiddies just yet. Chimp tribes kill and eat the young of other tribes, you know. Nature is cruel. @braztaz I really believe that they're amazing, beautiful, and deserving of protection. But subspecies of human is just biologically incorrect. They're not even in the same genus. How about their own genus and species, but equally protected, loved, and cared for?
I just love the wonder of the Joy of Sharing and unconditionally enjoying each others company.
