  • the front wheel was f'd up

  • It is Doug's Birthday today July 4th 2010, he would have been 49 yrs old. He died 3 yrs and 2 days ago. Each time an Ultra Light flies over I say "Hi Doug" to him. Wish you were here with me, miss you so much.

  • @eileenonme sad story take care of u

  • The family would like to know if anyone out there knows where or who has Doug's planes, especially interested in the one he hadnt finished with the long nose. Thanks

  • @teddybear2ns

I bought the Sonex from Doug. He flew it out to me in Calgary. It is a beauty and I am enjoying it down here in Texas.

  • part of what makes car crash systems so expensive is the extremely fast response times of air bags, and that they often are designed to deploy in response to side impacts. Aircraft crashes can be anticipated much easier than crashes in automobiles. Air bags in aircraft can be deployed much easier, without the dangerous explosives used in cars; airbags in cars have killed people, but the air bags used in aircraft need not be as dangerous as the crashes they are trying to protect us from.

  • Doug was flying a Sonex. There is a variation to the Sonex that uses an electric motor, and has some advantages over fueled aircraft, since electric motors with just a single moving part are more reliable than systems with hundreds of moving parts.

Batteries cannot yet supply enough range for many uses, but as battery tech matures, electric flight may soon give us safer, less expensive flying options.

Private aircraft crash survivability needs the same attention cars have had for years now.

  • So sorry about your loss but loving to fly puts one in that danger zone. Being a pilot as well puts you in the air whenever you get the chance! Sorry.

  • Thank you for posting this video..Doug was my brother and an awesome guy....he loved to fly

  • Doug was a passenger in a Searay Canadian ultralight flying boat that went down in the coastal mountains here in BC. may they rest in peace.

  • Sad to know this. Sorry for asking, but is the plane still flying? Do you know who is the current owner?

  • @Sonex1204

Its still flying. I will try and post a flight in it here.

  • I';m like the others,,,,what happened to Doug? Sometimes, ones death can be an education to others. I hate to see any brother from the air taken prematurely.

  • what happened to him, omg... what is the song

  • What happen to Doug?

Look like a very nice guy

  • I can only assume the worst from the title, but this is great footage and I really appreciate the clever mods to the original design. Thanks for sharing....

  • May Doug fly with the angels for eternity, we miss you Doug....
