@newcorner747 An upset in sports history is when e.g Boxing Tyson vs a low ranked boxer and that low ranked boxer knocks him out and wins thats an upset
I agree to an extent. They didn't have tons of losses. Some were actually pretty good fighters. Here's an excuse. Douglas fought well also. We wasn't afraid to throw punches. Most of his opponents were class B or C heavyweights. Not sure if he's ever beaten a class A. Except for Micheal Spinks.
i agree. he lost the fight because it was as if he didn't turn up and just expected to win it and fall in his lap but as proved you got too put the effort in to get the rewards! but still an excellent fighter and put his name on the sport for all time
if tyson was sut a hard hitter WHY DET HE NEVER HURT BUSTER.. ITS LIKE SO CRAZY 2 THINK ABOURT.. He never hurt buster .. only with the uppercut.. but still buster came rihgt back and kickt tysons ass.. ppl say tyson was a hard hitte.. if he was sut a hard hitter how the fuck det he lost 2 buster.. even wen tyson wasent that fast.. he was still a better more powerful boxer ten.. buster.. BUT STILL HE LOST.. buster is the better boxer.. .. BUSTER U MY HERO AND IDOL MAY GOD BE WITH U. RIP 2 U MOM
@TheLeithBoy hmm no bro i think its the other way Around hahaha Tyson ending busters Carer.. i belive it was Buster who runiet Tysons carer.. he went down after that fihgt hahaha
@BunBRIP he went down after this fight? he fought Douglas again in a rematch and literally ended busters career.Buster retired after it said "after the defeat by Tyson i wasnt the same man" LOL so no "bro" i tihnk its the other way around LOL
The irony with this fight was that Tyson was well known for being a fantastic finisher once he had you hurt. Douglas on the other hand was well known for quitting once he WAS hurt, or found himself losing a fight. After knocking Douglas down, Tyson couldn't capitalize because he was exhausted due to not training properly. After being knocked down, Douglas kept his composure and got up as if quitting was not an option. Very unusual behavior for both fighters.
If Tyson had not lost his passion, not gotten rid of all the people who helped him become Undisputed Champ - if Tyson had remained focused - As motivated and prepared Buster Douglas was to win, this fight would've went the distance, and Douglas would've still gotten props for losing to Mike by a split decision.
.
Unfortunately, Tyson went downhill, and Douglas was never this good before the fight, and never this good after the fight.
"Look at this, he's knocked Mike Tyson down!" Classic... It's like the announcer is begging for mercy..... perfect commentating..... Joe Rogan should take some notes.
I love watching Mike Tyson, but on this day... Buster Douglas boxed like he could have beaten anyone and I don't think any fighter has ever impressed me as much as Buster did in this fight.
Some people just like to see a champion fall, but to me, this was more than that.
It was watching a man shoving the doubt of the entire world back in it's face.
I want a pair of those shoes Douglas has too, haha
@0660christian He waved it off, signalling that he was stopping the fight (ie that Tyson could not continue). That is why the result is a TKO for Buster Douglas and not KO.
Col. Bob Sheridan is the truth. Best boxing commentator ever as far as I'm concerned. Better than Joe Tessitore, better than Howard Cosell. NOBODY can sell a knockout like Sheridan.
Douglas's mom died right, but if Tyson fought the current champ tomorrow and won....Tyson fans would say his daughter's death (rip) drove him on to victory. If he lost, they'de say the event made him lack luster, and THATS why he lost. Not because he has punched a million times.noooooooo. LOL
Mike Tyson as well as everyone else took this fight too lightly. He lost because he was not ready to fight. He was lethargic throughout the whole fight. He didn't do much bobbing and weaving or used much head movement.
@sexee509 I like Tyson but why do Tyson fanatics have every excuse in the book for his loses. The fact of the matter is Tyson was an exciting skilled heavyweight but far from an all time great. He only has a handful of real wins. When he was knocking people out left and right they were all below average boxers with tons of loses.
@JohnnyBoyCali Everyones like Buster would have never beat Tyson from '88 or Tyson wasn't prepared...point is; they fought when they did and when they did Tyson lost. If Buster would have lost and used the excuse "i didn't train hard enough" or "if we would have fought two years ago I would have beat him, I was younger then" people would have laughed at those lame excuses, so why should they work for tyson?
Uh!! Si me acordaré de esta pelea!!! Estava viendola en una casa de empanadas cerca de Miramar con mi mejor amigo y su familia!! Nadie podia creer que perdiera Myke!
@newcomer9747 Because this was the very fight (1990) that ended Tyson's invincibility - for the past 3 or 4 years Tyson had been kinda like a new paradigm in Boxing style - he'd KO every single opponent w/ awesome power, using an ultra aggressive strategy of unrelenting attack right of the first second - his fights would rarely go beyond the 4th round - he was a Boxing myth @ that point in time.
they robbed tyson fight 10 sec countdown waz more like 11 sec countdown wen tyson knock out douglas..no hate on douglas i think his a great fighter.. but tyson got too cocky after knockin dudes out that he stopped training...money got em fukked up..after his trainer died and his manger fukked him over.....
This was Mike Tyson in his prime folks..he was 23. After the fight him and his people wined like bitches about long counts and injuries and women problems etc. The truth is Douglas was just a better fight than Tyson. Douglas mother died a week before the fight yet he focused, trained and did the job winning all but one round. Tyson had no answer to his jab; he made Mr potato head Tyson his bitch.Tyson was an over achieving rapist dwarf and not even in the top ten of all time great heavyweights
You look at Mikes earlier fights and then later ones, it just looks like he forgot what made him so great. It was the way he avoided punches. What happened to all of that weaving that made him so great early in his career. Young Tyson was one of the top 10 boxers of all time. Older Tyson is not even in the top 500

He may not be able to recover...it's up to seven and eight..he's not gonna make it..."
