Why criticize the Americans to Hispanics? Pathetic. US is a country of immigrants from Europe (UK, Spain, Holland and France in particular). They look stupid. Why criticize Mexico? Is an ancient country. The Hispanics tried to learn English but you don't try to learn Spanish. Hispanics in Miami are the same as you in the world... be comfortable and not speak another language, why?, cause the language in Miami is Spanish. Americans hate Hispanicspeakers. Spanish has been spoken in some areas of United States, like Florida or New Mexico for example, since much more time ago than English. In fact, the names of many cities like "Miami", "Los Angeles", "El Paso", etc., have a Spanish origin. Hence, I don´t understand why some U.S. citizens consider Spanish a foreign language.

@numonemofan Because, unfortunately, that language is hardly extinguished. I'm learning Quechua and is very sad to see how the native languages are being marginated. But that's not the question we were talking about, because I'm comparing two european idioms, spanish and english. And was the US that invaded states like Florida, California, etc. to Mexico, the question is, why those territories must speak english and not spanish?

I spoke Spanish as a kid and Spanish has a feeling of home but i din't want to be poor and I really liked English better. My kids can't even speak a word of Spanish. I still love the culture even though I gave up the language.

I was born in miami, fl- english is my 1st language- spanish my 2nd- & greek my 3rd- and I speak more spanish than I do english- to me personally- speaking the same language over and over- every single day is annoying & bores the hell outta me- i do business in spanish greek & italian- more than I do english- in europe the- kids over there are speaking 3 or 4 languages by the 4th grade - and there are latinos here that can even speak their own ethnic language- kind of sad & embarrassing .
