  • i have a 724 and it hasnt ran in over 4 years i drained the gas out the last time i used it so i know it has fresh gas now but i still cant get the damn thing started, the spark plug is getting spark and it looks to be ok its not really dirty but i just cant get it to fire up???...doesnt even sound like its getting fuel?? any suggestions

  • All you have to do is turn the fuel mix screw out at high RPM till it runs nice

  • hey sounds like its surging. you should rebuild the carb.

  • I recently rebuilt it as it wasn't even starting before, it was my first carb rebuild so I could have screwed up, but after the rebuilt it started up easy, and runs nice on low idle, but when I throw snow with it on low idle it doesn't have enough power, so I need to turn the idle up to throw the snow, but then once it clears the snow the engine just takes off running way too hard... you think its still the carb? I was thinking it could be the governor.

  • it could possibly be the govenor, are u sure u reinstalled all the linkage to its original mounting? and wat do u mean running to hard? how many rpm would u say?

  • I'm fairly confident the linkage is the same as before I took it apart, but I assume the governor (through the linkage) should open and close the throttle valve, but its not doing this. By running hard I mean if I didn't turn the idle down immediately after the load is removed (ie: when it hits a clear patch) then the engine sounds like its going to explode, I have no idea about the rpm, but I can only imagine its red-lining or higher.

  • the govenor linkage should somehow connect to the carbs throttle plate and as the engines under load it shold automatically adjust the engines speed to keep it from dying or over reving

  • Does the governor do this solely by adjusting the carbs throttle plate, or does it have another mechanism of controlling the engine speed?

  • the govenor is connected to a gear in the engine its-self. This gear binds with the camshaft and adjusts the engines speed based on the speed of the internal gear. The govenor is meant the keep the engine from over-reving or dying when under load, the operator should have complete control over the throttlew plate.

  • I start it with the choke on and throttle on full, then I lower the throttle and open the choke valve in increments until the choke is fully open (in other word, choke is off) and throttle is low, and it idles OK. however, if I raise the throttle (either by using the lever or using my finger on the valve) to about half way the engine just races like crazy.

  • is your choke off?
