I used the L1A1 SLR in the Australian Army (show my age!), the British version of the FN FAL. While it was a very robust, accurate weapon, it jammed if a little dirt got into it. I read a report in an American defence magazine about the RK machine-gun, similar to the AK, and it stated that it never jammed, in water, snow, etc. It only failed to fire when put in mud, but after pushing the bolt forward it fired again. I know which rifle I would prefer if the shit hit the fan!
