It's really nice to hear someone do this song reverently, and not botch it up. No, it's not played exactly like the E St. band's version, but it is in exactly the same loving spirit in which I first saw it performed by Bruce in 1981. I've never heard of this guy before, but I'm definitely a fan now!
are you bleeping kidding me?!?!?! this ain't the E Street Band here, as they say in your 'hood. Have you seen the acoustic version with just him, the woman and the violinist, outside somewhere in Italy? fuck the drums - that version is amazing.
Yes but this is a very NJ sounding song and they keyboards are so important. Sorry this is a delicate song and I just did not care for the version. If you want to get some bootlegs of the Sad eyes versions in between the song Backstreets Bruce does that will make you appreciate it more.
don't think this is a bad cover at all - think his voice is a fantastic compliment to the song, he does a lovely job, and the band sounds great. great choice, well done. can't fathom anyone not enjoying this.
This is ABSOLUTELY the definitive cover that i have heard of a Springsteen song! As soulfal, beautiful and moving as the original. And how about Jake on Sax? He could step in for the old man right now and the E street band wouldn't lose a step.
I saw Glen and the Swell Season in Perth last year, they were magnificient. What an incredible voice. He does this cover of Springsteen's "Drive All Night" brilliantly and I'm sure (or at least I hope) they will share the stage one day soon! Being a huge Springsteen fan I am always intrigued by other artists who try and cover him. Some hit, some miss, but Glen definately hits the mark, made especially moving with Jake Clemons on the sax!
he is not trying to out do bruce, glen has for years sung songs by his fav artists, he likes to share it with the crowds. u can see he loves doing it. i can see where ur comin from tho, jumping to defend bruce, ur obv a big fan of his, but glen is also, and i think they have infact become friends since swell season hit it big in usa,
Just beautiful! Jake and Glen both. And I have to say there's not a cover Glens' ever done that I havn't absolutely loved. His voice amazing. His passion and sincerity incredible. I travel YouTube just about daily to get my Glen fix and feed my soul. Can't imagine I'll ever find him boring.
I thank you and the many others who have shared moments like this with us!
Springsteen has a very distinctive & unique voice. And when others cover his songs, they're usually always pretty bad. And "Drive All Night" is one of his most complicated songs...
What a treat ! Can tell you all that Hansard spent most of Christmas busking (with Bono, Mundy et al) & raising money for the Dublin Simon Community, helping Dublin's homeless - priceless commitment. A gem !
One of the best Bruce covers i have seen live! I have seen the Frames 20 times live and the Swell Season 6 times, Glen is an amazing musician no matter what band he is with he brings down the house. I hope the Frames hit the road soon
AWESOME! So glad someone post this..I was there too but in the nose bleed seats! I really have no words for this whole concert..it was just amazing. They are really gifted.
Incredible. I feel so fortunate to have been there for this. This song brought tears to my eyes and I remember thinking at one point during the performance, oh please let someone who's recording this post it on YouTube. Thanks so much for sharing.
What an awesome show, It was my first time at radio city music hall, that place has amazing accoustics, it complimented glen very well. Perfect venue for him. saw him in central park last summer. Would have liked a little more from josh ritter, he only played a 30 min set and was done. This was a great treat having jake clemmons on the sax. Clarence taught him well it seems.
Its fitting that Jake Clemmons is going on tour with the Boss!

I decided that THIS song is Mr. Springsteen's BEST effort EVER. Oh...and when the Boss performs it...not too shabby either!

Where is the keyboards? The kick pattern on the drums is wrong also.

what does Glen say at 8:29 that makes the audience laugh? something about the girls in the audience.

"... and all the colored girls go ..."
It's a line from Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side"

@asgeirnotvik Yep and the color girls go.... Lou Reed...great song too!

Glen gets me into music i'd normally never listen to. Folk Music, and Bob Dylan and Van Morrison.
