  • Sorry to be the first to bomb on this mission!

I have tried this on a 40D, yes slightly different but not overly. I thought everything had gone swimmingly until I turned the camera on.

Now, it boots momentarily and displays a different error message to beofre. "Er 99 cannot take picture now, please turn off and on again or replace battery" or similar.

I've since redisassembled twice to make sure all the contacts are correctly installed, and same problem. Ideas anyone?

  • Thanks a lot for sharing!!!

    great vid.

  • I recommend you discharge the flash somehow (set the flash at full power, and rapidly shut off the camera) because I managed to get electrocuted because of this :)

  • Thanks a lot for sharing this video. I just mended my 30d shutter button following your instructions. It works fine now.

For those who are going to repair shutters on their cameras I would just recommend to use screw drivers with thicker handle and longer metal part. Some screws on my camere were too tough to loosen with slender hendled srew driver.

  • Fantastic video, not sure how much you just saved me but I was going to have to do something. The shutter would only fire half to a third of the times I pressed it, now (I just finished following the instructions in your series to get it working) it seems to work like new.

Also thanks to other posters who said it really was this easy. If it hadn't been for the reviews I might not have actually done it. Surprisingly, after watching all videos first, I was able to follow along in real time.

  • Thanks I'll have a look.... Thanks for the reply!

  • Great video ! I was wondering with your knowledge of taking 30d's apart - I think that I may have shorted something in my camera whilst changing the display (I left the battery and microdrive in the camera, it was before I saw your post I may add), In doing this I think I may have blown a fuse - do you know where I could find the main fuse on the canon 30d, there seems to be little or no information regarding the fuse at all.

  • @dubba1966

It's more likely that power went were power wasn't supposed to go and shorted/damaged the electronics. There SHOULD be a fuse, but I wouldn't put it past Canon to make it impossible to get at unless you're a canon service tech.

Did you ever see the 20D assembly PDF? take a look at my other videos/flickr and open the PDF to take a look at how everything comes together. Maybe you'll find the fuses!

  • @dubba1966 Did you resolve your fuse issue? I think I may have just done the same thing.

  • if anyone wants to disassemble their lens/body make sure you use a good screw driver with size 000 philips head that can give you maximum torque. As for the loose screw, i always place them in a screw divider thing (sort of like a pill organizer) and i place a small note in each compartment labeling where it came from.

  • Dude, you just saved my life

    Awesome!

Had a broken AE unit. It hang loosely in the case but i fixed it with your help and now it's working again.

    :D
