  • It baffles me that people think he has a bad voice.

  • zajebisty kawałek

  • To all interested parties, Big Time is available on NetFlix streaming video right this very minute. NetFlix removes stuff from streaming all the time so I don't know how long they will keep it on. It is a must watch for Waits fans.

  • Just... Wow.

  • BEST

  • You run from home, from life. You chase a dream and jump on a train to god knows where. Aimless, lost, you piss away what good fortune finds you and end up washed out, brought low by the same blind stupidity that dragged you from your doorstep in the first place. You look back at your life, your home, the people you loved, and realize at last what you gave up when you rode those long irons into ruin and you wonder if you can ever go back.

  • @TheWoodencrow Are they your words?

  • @KissdaKittyKat After about four re-writes to properly articulate my thoughts, yes. Just what this song feels like in my head.

  • @TheWoodencrow Well. I was deeply impressed by your words... I guess you do a lot of writing?

  • I'm in a play bout viet nam vets who ride the rails and raise hell. Will speak to the director and maybe we'll use this gem! Thanks for posting!

  • This may me the most emotional, perfect recording I've ever heard.

  • @CynicalCatharsis Gold, nice call.

  • @CynicalCatharsis so basically what you are trying to tell me is that this guy is a complete homo? "wrought with pain and regret" why would you talk like that? are you trying to tell me that you are equally as homo as this homosexual individual making this horrible attempt at trying to sing? I am not judging this nerd on anything other than his less than satisfactory screech of a voice.

I think I grasp what you are saying pretty well, no need to clarify, I understand completely.

  • @Arcturistheballer ha poor baby got owned

  • @CynicalCatharsis glad you think its cute to hate on someone whos voice sounds like a wild animal with a severe respiratory issues taking its last breath.

  • @CynicalCatharsis this nigga's voice would have a stroke doing that listen to some real music.

  • so gay

  • ...good song.

  • My favorite song evar.

  • sounds like an early Randy Newman song. a much better song called "Louisiana 1927 "(about the flood) Damn I wish every song by tom didn't miss for me . I only love one song "in the neighborhood" and like "downtown train" .

  • @11xzxzxz yeah Randy Newman is badass. too bad you can't dig Tom. he's my favorite of all.

  • 6 people missed the train....

  • such a heartbreaking tale we've all lived true in some way or another

  • I think i have added 100 views already.

  • @Lazairus and one, two,.......

  • I'm soulin' with some Tom Waits here...

  • Marvellous:-)))

  • This is my single favorite recording of all time

  • he wrote this you know

  • Few do angst with the kind of profundity Waits is able to summon up. It's as raw as it is sad. It's also starkly beautiful.

  • @c05541235 I know I'm a little late to this conversation, lol, but I read that Tom taught himself how to play the piano. If it's true (which I'm guessing it is) it would be really natural for him to have bad form. I started piano lessons when I was 5, and the first thing they teach you is how to hold your hands. If no one taught you how to hold your hands, it would be easy to learn to play with the wrong form, and once you've learned... well, it's hard to re-learn stuff. Amazing, beautiful song.

  • @KatieHippieWannaBe check out some memphis slim videos on youtube. he had bad form too, and listen to what he did,.

  • Tom Waits... maybe the last real artist left in music. Thank God for Tom.

  • @chichikov8 this

  • mp3iffy now lets you grab cd-quality VEVO videos and HD YouTube videos to convert into mp3s. AWESOME> google mp3iffy.

  • Heartfelt stuff.

  • It's typical, very good, Tom.

    Ron

  • this is for sale on ebay times 10. i bought a copy [= thanks for sharing!

  • So Good! Excuse Me...So Great!

  • Is he double-jointed? Coulda swore I saw him bending his fingers BACK at the middle knuckles on them keys.

  • yep, you can see it better in christmas card from a hooker in minneopolis

  • @alexmortland I do believe he is double jointed its wild I know!!

  • 5*****.estupendo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.un saludo

  • @c05541235 I did some research. U.S. Government Manual #37193857 on Piano Playing Posture states that a proper piano player plays with fingers in a relaxed curve. It appears that Waits never read the publication.

Just kiddin' c05541235. Seems a little unusual, but it works for him. He has a few unconventional qualities.

  • @sawtoothdan

Heh heh, that's a good one.

  • Saw this at the theater, found it on VHS..

Please lets get it out on Blu-ray or DVD!!?

  • I LOVE TOM WAITS!

  • Will never be topped

  • I just watched the frays version of this. Why do people bother?

  • @danwillingham fair question and if the goal is to try to top TW....well it's not gonna happen...but they do it, or i do it, because they love the man and his music.... because it allows them to access/express some real emotion... and because it gives them pleasure... even if they can't touch his versions or his talent... he is after all, Tom Waits.

  • @danwillingham actually theres a cover of Jockey Full of Bourbon on this bar jukebox on a mix CD that is better than Tom's version. I cant find it on youtube, however, so I don't know who covered it.

  • @danwillingham Isaac's voice is just as unique as Tom's. The Fray are always very respectful in their covers, and give full credit/praise to the original artists. What's so terrible about them covering it?

  • I saw Big Time on IFC a few weeks ago and I was entranced. Prior to seeing it I only had Mule Variations, but Big Time showed me what an awesome live performer he is. I wish they would release it on DVD!

  • What made my Dream so Hollow? There are a lot of drugs, preachers and over educated people

out there who certainly won't answer this question

for you. In the end we are all on our own. Good luck! My reglion..

  • I don't even know how many times I've listened to this song in the last month since I found it

  • same..

  • my favourite tom waits tune.

but i would still adhere to my album version... maybe its the fact that i can increase the volume.......

  • you can always buy the big time album :)

  • Extraordinary. Blows away the album version.

  • simplicity says so much. true brilliance and gonna be hard to replace....if ever at all

  • 41 grazie per chi si è ricordato .. il resto mancia !!! adesso 3 minuti di ecologia per le vostre orecchie.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Amazing version...

  • This is one of my all-time favourite songs, not only from Waits but out of any song.

This sums up the emotion of true blues, folk roots, and poetry.

  • TI've never decided what I love most in this clip....his delicately falling asleep as the ticket agent or his placidly gazing up into the light from above on stage.....

His whole career is one gigantic homage to a vanished breed of once-great American creativity and showmanship (musical and cinematic),

  • Just a great great song.....

  • thank you so much for posting this. really. thank you.

    jh

  • I Love this truely great songwriter.

  • Very possibly my all time favorite song. Remember it from train rides through Europe being 18 years old. And from my time in the army. And from my time inside. Now, I'm living 8700 km from home. Thank you, Tom.

  • This is in response to

    eurobusker

fuck jack and his queer stuff

  • Jack was the straight one, brah.

  • more people need to hear this

  • can't top that.

  • This song seriously got me through bootcamp. I know its hard to believe, but it did.

  • I'd like to hear more about that- Please explain.

  • @aaronshoup i guess if no one will smuggle pot in. I listen to Tom when I want to confirm I'm depressed.

  • @aaronshoup i believe it...it got me through a divorce, kind of the same thing...

  • @aaronshoup not hard to believe, not that i have expeirience with boot camp but i do have xperience with a song gettin me thru hard times

  • @aaronshoup Congratulations, From a left wing(not to left) liberal, who also enjoys tom waits, america, weed, booz, girlfriends(current), and more weed and homework. Because i wouldnt do it, but you did and i respect that.

    KEKEKEKEKE (primus sucks)

  • @aaronshoup

That's great. It's a gem that helps me feel good when I'm feelin blue, too.

  • awsome!! btw, his hands look like he has rheumatoid arthritis.

  • I love Tom! thanks, joanie

  • A Very Beautiful song delivered only the way Mr. Waits Can!!!

  • dassagini yidigim....

  • genius

  • One of the best videos on youtube. I love Big Time.

  • "What made my dreams so hollow? I was standin' there at the depot, with a steeple full of swallows, that could never ring the bell" Tom is the greatest..

  • thank you man, love this song

  • Thanks for posting this. It's on my top five of favorite songs. Some serious memories connected to this one. God bless.
