That's a REALLY bad idea, because, overinflated tires have a smaller contact patch and you will have less control. They will also wear out prematurely in the center. Maximum pressure is for when people are seating beads and such, so as to not have the tire explode. The recommended pressure on your door is the correct pressure in all cases, no exceptions.

usamericans, well actually in my prius, i just slightly inflated each tire and the mileage went from 37 to 48..... theres an on board computer that does the mpg for you...
This winter I got stuck in 3 feet of snow, so I took the pressure down to 10 psi in my dodge quad cab hemi ram to get unstuck (try that in your prius) and forgot to reinflate them. I drove for a month on tires that were 25 psi underinflated with no loss in gas mileage. I still got exactly 10.3 mpg according to the onboard computer which was the same as when they were properly inflated.

Drilling rigs have gone from using 65+ acres to less than 10 acres - we'd probably use less than 2000 acres total for drilling, and when compared to the 1.5 million acres of coastal plain we're talking about opening up in ANWR, that is very, very small.

Demand is going up with Russia, China, India, Brazil, ASEAN nations, and oil is going down. ANWAR and the US offshore fields will not even put a dent on real supply. American needs to look outside oil, and biofuel is not the answer and nor is solar. We have a real problem, and both candidates are dazed and confused.
For those of who want to count on the imaginary ingenuity of oil companies, and I am fan of oil companies, to fix this oil shortage, let me share some figures to put into perspective for you the reality. Demand is increase at an unprecendented rate. Russia has the largest share of natural gas in the world, and eventually will direct more and more of its gas to its own consumers as it contiunues to develop, further increasing oil prices, since oil prices are directly correlated to gas prices.
If America is serious about energy independence, than Obama is wrong to be against nuclear power if he is in fact against it. The lower 48 oil fields are all on the decline, and soon the major Mexican fields will be on decline. Solar and biofuel are not cost efficent, meaning for example, the cost of extracting a barrel of oil should not cost more than a barrel of oil. The offshore oil will not be supplied till 10 years later, and prices are determined in the "long run" by supply and demand.

That's a REALLY bad idea, because, overinflated tires have a smaller contact patch and you will have less control. They will also wear out prematurely in the center. Maximum pressure is for when people are seating beads and such, so as to not have the tire explode. The recommended pressure on your door is the correct pressure in all cases, no exceptions.

Here's my analysis - feel free to critique it: underinflated tires cost about 1.25B gals of gas per year-less than 1% of the 142B gals of gas per year. The Minerals and Mines Dept estimates 89B barrels of oil in the OCS alone (not counting ANWR), which is about 800B gals of gas. Obama's inflated tire savings works out to about .16% of the 800B gal of gas in the OCS.
Not even in Obama's wildest wet dream would we save in oil via inflated tires what we could drill if the OCS were opened up.

This winter I got stuck in 3 feet of snow, so I took the pressure down to 10 psi in my dodge quad cab hemi ram to get unstuck (try that in your prius) and forgot to reinflate them. I drove for a month on tires that were 25 psi underinflated with no loss in gas mileage. I still got exactly 10.3 mpg according to the onboard computer which was the same as when they were properly inflated.

drilling for oil these days has a negligible impact on the environment. the treehuggers all complained that the alaskan pipeline would kill off the Caribou, but OOPS...turns out the Caribou like the warmth given off by the pipeline and their numbers actually quadrupled after the pipeline was completed.
here's a good thing to do - whenever you hear a hysterical claim by a treehugger, know that the opposite is what's likely to occur.

stix, i disagee completely. with modern drilling technology today the environmental impact is very small. Drilling rigs have gone from using 65+ acres to less than 10 acres - we'd probably use less than 2000 acres total for drilling, and when compared to the 1.5 million acres of coastal plain we're talking about opening up in ANWR, that is very, very small.

Not only does inflating your tires to the correct pressure save Gasoline it also saves your front end components from premauture wear and very expensive repairs, It also corrects poor handling that results in many terrible car accidents and Rollover accidents because an under-inflated tire can actually come off a wheel during a sudden evasive manuver. In 1960s, global oil discoveries included 365 billion barrels. In 1970,s 150 billion barrels, in 1990s less than 40 billion barrels. Demand is going up with Russia, China, India, Brazil, ASEAN nations, and oil is going down. ANWAR and the US offshore fields will not even put a dent on real supply. American needs to look outside oil, and biofuel is not the answer and nor is solar. We have a real problem, and both candidates are dazed and confused.

Demand is increase at an unprecendented rate. Russia has the largest share of natural gas in the world, and eventually will direct more and more of its gas to its own consumers as it contiunues to develop, further increasing oil prices, since oil prices are directly correlated to gas prices.

If America is serious about energy independence, than Obama is wrong to be against nuclear power if he is in fact against it. The lower 48 oil fields are all on the decline, and soon the major Mexican fields will be on decline. Solar and biofuel are not cost efficent, meaning for example, the cost of extracting a barrel of oil should not cost more than a barrel of oil. The offshore oil will not be supplied till 10 years later, and prices are determined in the "long run" by supply and demand.

Wind power is ideal for supporting primary power sources since it is not a constant source of power, and it is close to cost-effective technology. The German wind farm produces 18,000 Megawatts (MW). One MW can power 615 homes. Nuclear is the most economical with reactors that have a life of up to 70 years.You do the math.

Dude you sound very stressed out and you still haven't answered my question why do you and hannity MOCK and INSULT public officials for making simple suggestions that the average person can implement to make a difference? The problem is Obama went to Iraq making his mind up & giving a speech before he went!He didn't give a damn about General Petraeus said are suggested & what he needs .General Petraess has done a incredible job & our fine brave men&women!Obama refuses to admit the surge worked!Plus the New York Times refused to run Mccains Oped.But runs Obamas!The kicker is The New York Times had no problem running MoveOn.orgs full page with General BE-Tray-US& gave them a discount!Obama didn't condemn it either!

Keep in mind this is the guy who's IN CHARGE over there and damn close to those "generals on the ground" and this is after 6 years of us babysitting Iraqis ..
He said "we haven't turned any corners and there are no lights at the end of the tunnel"
He also REPEATEDLY dogged the following simple YES or NO question posed to him: "Is whats happening over there making us safer over HERE?"
That's ALL I need to know about the surge and what Petraeus said.

He DID condemn that add by MoveOn that ripped Petraeus. Obama spoke against it and voted for a separate amendment offered by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) that condemned the ad, as well as other attacks on past and present members of the armed forces.
FAUX News is the only major news source that CONTINUES the "Obama didn't condemn the add b.s."

smoochie, mccain has voted for veteran's benefits many more times than he's voted against them, and if he votes against them it's usually because there's either a competing bill that he prefers or there is pork contained within the bill that he opposes. as a veteran myself, i appreciate mccain's support of vets AND his attempt to keep federal spending under control.
McCain ain't perfect, but to describe him as "stabbing vets in the back" is ridonkulous.

Obama says no to drilling & nuclear which even France & Sweeden uses.He wants us to keep giving countries that hate our gut $700 billion a year.His original energy plan is improve effeciency by 50% by 2030.He want's to reduce carbon emmission's 50% by 2050!Liberals say drilling will take 10yrs & how long have they been saying that about 10yrs!We could drill east,west coast,Anwr oil shale in the Rockys which is 3 times the oil reserve in Saudi Arabia alone.Keep the $700bill here & get aggressive

smoochie, obama said that just by inflating our tires we'd achieve in savings that same amount that would be drilled from the OCS and ANWR....um, no, not even close. 30-90 Billion barrels of oil in the OCS and ANWR. If everyone in the US had underinflated tires and we realized a full 3% savings, it still doesn't come anywhere close to the amount of oil that would be extracted from the OCS and ANWR.
