Brilliant!!! What a superb performance. Such a high standard.
Please don't take this personally (whoever you are) but it's a pity the cameraman (or woman) wasn't more musically aware of the arrangement and which musicians to focus on during this performance. It would have made this clip even better.
BUT: The music is the main thing here and I would love to know which orchestra or band the lead violinist is playing in now.
@SwedishHammerHawk Ok ok, I get it, I was a skinny 13-year-old. Middle school was an awkward time physically for everyone. However, you should know that I play in a symphony now and my arms are still very much intact.
Spurned by @Pankzas, and that we're not alone, look what I found! No promises it is this teacher's arrangement, but still! Search for Buffalo Music Ltd at their works available page, Jeeves and Wooster is right near the top.
Every child (and if you're not a child anymore, it's not too late!) should learn to play an instrument!!! Too bad No Child Left Behind doesn't include music, or vocational Ed. Not everyone wants to, or needs to go to college to be successful. I work with this age group and the ones that play music have such a leg up on everything! Timing, performing, math, cooperation, tone(not just in the musical sense) vocabulary, and much more! <3
"Too many strings = not jazz" Not necessarily "not jazz" Because just about all "Classical Orchestras" Couldn't swing a note if their life depended on it (Show me one example and I'll take it back), or improvise!
Django Reinhardt is someone who knows how to make Jazz and not some cheep imitation! He used a Quintet! Only 26 Strings! Not a whole freaking Orchestra playing the same notes! Get it now chump!?
If you can't appreciate the musicianship inherent in, say, the New York Philharmonic then there's nothing I can do to help you. And just because classical orchestras aren't designed to improvise doesn't mean their individual members can't. In fact, they're just about always sublime musicians. If you had any idea what you were talking about you'd know that.
You didn't criticize them for being an orchestra. You criticized them for playing jazz without horns. Which is idiotic.
I criticized them for not fitting the format, not for playing without horns "It just doesn't fit the JAZZ Format" I said to many strings not enough horns because the original format had two string, two brass, one windward, one percussion, and one cross between string and percussion. It only had string instruments, which was not the right format.
Perhaps worth mentioning in the description that the original theme is by Anne Dudley... But I guess the arrangement was made especially for this band. Good work!
I have been a Wodehouse fan for 20 years and have heard this theme probably 300 times - and I love seeing it played - by a midle school band no less. Wow. Great job!!!
where did they get the music from?! I thought it was a terribly rare piece to get a hold of. The theme was also used in 'Mickey Blue Eyes'. It's merely called 'Jeeves and Wooster theme.'
Very nice! I'm so jealous, I've been looking for that sheet music since my middle school years. The main part's trying to find the title. What exactly is that song called?

C'mon, that's just mean, it's a middle school orchestra! You can't expect them to play like the royal philharmonic or something can you?

I'm not sorry, It just doesn't fit the JAZZ Format. Too many strings, not enough horns. Then again you weren't aiming to do that anyway.

Too many strings = not jazz? Tell that to Django Reinhardt you dunce.
