Of course you can't read books at your work place but I was newly Joined and unfortunately my PC was not yet set up. so I thought of reading some pages to kill time. Their was a girl who talk 2 chetan in train. I realise this book is not Part I. I must read Part I which was "FPS" that is why I bought this Book. ;)
Hey I never knew about stealing story when I started reading this Book. But when I move on around 100 pages I felt that it is exact copy, added Book is more interesting than "3 Idiots" Movie. A must read book I say. One More thing bollywood peoples cannot write their own scripts. so they can't help themselves by stealing other's stories. so leave them on their condition. The film is good. But it has been based on the book FPS by Chetan Bhagat. So, Chetan must be credited for what he has done. He wrote the book and we got the chance to watch such a good movie. Had not Chetan wrote the book, I doubt, the story of 3 idiots would have never been such good. Luv u Chetan Bhagat .

Legally the contract signed by the movie Company and the Author was followed to the dot. Whether one party was taken advantage of or not should have been discussed before signing the contract. Seems like this is a lame attempt to gain publicity and funds through further book sales. Anyway, that's water under the bridge, move on dude. Next time read your contract carefully and make sure you understand it before signing.
I used to appriciate Aamir for making good movies and staying away from these things but i guess he will not only loose fans but a financial blow because of loosing fans.

Chetan Bhagat is an idiot! To say he signed the contract without seeing the script or tallying how much it was similar to his book can work for naive bole to 'public'. He is a smart bastard, not a high school teenager. And then the script is way to different than his book - storyline to a film and its script are two different things. -)
Another similarity was that chetan's book also had a character similar to chatur ramalingam...however his speech in the movie including the shlok was completely genuine:D

This man is great at selling fiction, this is another piece of fiction he has sold well. Like many others I feel angry I fell into his trap and am very annoyed someone was able to do that to me and others.
If you also notice from the first press conference he gave on this he began by slandering and raising 2-3 issues against the film-makers and as they disputed his slandering on those points, he slithered his way out and engineered a way to make us forget the initial points he referred to on day one of this issue and to focus on his recent new rationale. Any issue he has now should have come out before when he was narrated the script. He was given credit where he asked for it in the contract.
He is a sneaky creature. I believed him at first but then read through all the interviews/posts and realised he has been misleading. Bottom line is he thinks he should have got more/appropriate credit (he should have stated at time of contract) as he believes a larger portion of the book was taken than the makers were saying, but he was narrated story 3/4 times before and after the premiere of the movie he gives an interview to say he is over the moon with the way the movie has been adapted.

Not everyone knows its based on the book - infact, the movie is the way to reach more people for the book. Only college going/graduate youth had read this book earlier. The point of having the "book credit" in the movie was to make a wider audience interested in the book.
But the book in the rolling credits was easy to miss and story and screenplay writers Hirani and Abhijat were much more prominent in the front.
So wrong message was getting across which was not in the spirit of the agreement.
@nagrajan777 - I agree having the book credit in the rolling credits was easy to miss, but that is what rolling credits are like - they are at the end and people don't pay attention to them, and Chetan was happy with having it in the rolling credits. The problem here is that Chetan choeographed this issue in such a way that he made Hirani, Vinod and co seem corrupt. This is the first time these guys have adpated a script and just followed what was agreed by all parties in the contract.
If the story is original screenplay based on a novel where the novelist claims 70% stolen from his book without the other 30% is from the Hollywood B grade movie "first 20 million is always the hardest 2002" the campus scenes bum salute stolen from this movie, so what is original in this movie.
There are so many legal issues which are ignored in this movie.
It is a perfect case of bollywood conmen like chopra and hirani trying to take the full credit for Bhagat's baby. He should have been more careful in understanding the term " ROLLING CREDITS". They can claim legality but not morality. BESHARAM......
This also puzzles me as I watched Rocket Singh the other night and still have to find a Hollywood Ripoff of this original movie. This got bad review from all Indian critics. great true to life story and fantastic real acting not over the top antics like in 3 Idiots.

The film is good. But it has been based on the book FPS by Chetan Bhagat. So, Chetan must be credited for what he has done. He wrote the book and we got the chance to watch such a good movie. Legally the contract signed by the movie Company and the Author was followed to the dot. Whether one party was taken advantage of or not should have been discussed before signing the contract. Seems like this is a lame attempt to gain publicity and funds through further book sales. Anyway, that's water under the bridge, move on dude. Next time read your contract carefully and make sure you understand it before signing.

If you also notice from the first press conference he gave on this he began by slandering and raising 2-3 issues against the film-makers and as they disputed his slandering on those points, he slithered his way out and engineered a way to make us forget the initial points he referred to on day one of this issue and to focus on his recent new rationale. Any issue he has now should have come out before when he was narrated the script. He was given credit where he asked for it in the contract.

He is a sneaky creature. I believed him at first but then read through all the interviews/posts and realised he has been misleading. Bottom line is he thinks he should have got more/appropriate credit (he should have stated at time of contract) as he believes a larger portion of the book was taken than the makers were saying, but he was narrated story 3/4 times before and after the premiere of the movie he gives an interview to say he is over the moon with the way the movie has been adapted.

Not everyone knows its based on the book - infact, the movie is the way to reach more people for the book. Only college going/graduate youth had read this book earlier. The point of having the "book credit" in the movie was to make a wider audience interested in the book.
But the book in the rolling credits was easy to miss and story and screenplay writers Hirani and Abhijat were much more prominent in the front.
So wrong message was getting across which was not in the spirit of the agreement.

The problem here is that Chetan choeographed this issue in such a way that he made Hirani, Vinod and co seem corrupt. This is the first time these guys have adpated a script and just followed what was agreed by all parties in the contract.

Chetan is one of the best authors and highest bookseller in India.....but other than that how many people in the world or as a matter of fact in India knows him.......this is not only an amazing opportunity for his publicity but also a chance to make a little money out of the crores the movie is making..... and maybe another chance to increase his previous book sales

You know what I don't know what this man want. They paid him for the copyright and he signed the agreement. If they go out from the agreement. He would have been to the court. Now he cannot sue them why he is making so big of issue. As he is saying they are going to take all awards. Every movie based on the novals, awards does not go to Novel writer. It will go to the official writer.

i cant believe y amir is blabbering like this , i believe Chetan Bhagat dont hav ny bad intentions to take away the credit of 3 idiots coz his book is far more interesting than the movie......!! almost all the nice moments in the movie are obviously copied from the book...........amir plzzz stop takin the nonsense nd read the boookkkkk!!!
