I know what a vet is and I also know there are combat campaign ribbons and medals for each of your non existing wars, police actions, conflicts, or whatever. They were wars whether congress agrees or not. To serve during war time but not in battle you are an era veteran, such as anyone active during Korea but never had to go are Korean Era Veterans, not Korean Veterans. He may have been stationed there, but hes not a Korean Vet., not even an era vet.

I replied by saying Obama had a team and a staff and not just inexperienced family and friends. We offered to put a team behind him and he refused. Why would someone refused free help to campaign? A lot of Democrats that I spoke with across the state care but do not think their vote will make a difference so a large amount of people do not go to the polls. S.C. has 4,561,242 people in the state and Greene gets 59% of the vote totaling 100,000 people. There is something wrong with that number if that is all who is voting.

He was in my unit in the Army. 1st infantry divison 1st balltalion 5th feild artillery Ft. Riley Kansas. i just want to say that he is most definitly unfit to be a senator. All people who have served in the military are veterans. All people who have served in the military while in Korea are veterans who served in Korea.
BUT, if you insist on veterans serving in wars, take it two ways: 1) The US never declared war after WWII, so no one who served in Vietnam, Korea, or Iraq is a veteran, OR 2) The Korean War never ended ... the N.&S. agreed to an armistice, and then set up a border along the line of control in 1953, but never declared peace.

Here's the reason I think the semantics don't matter: there is no possibility for confusion here. People can see and tell that Mr. Greene is not 75+ years old and so everyone knows that he didn't serve in combat in the Korea.

@pspmichael it looks like after 13 years in the Air Force and then the National Guard he got to the rank of specialist (E-4). I know from of at least one (CBRN) soldier that got (E-4) out of boot camp because he had a collage degree which Greene apparently has. For some prospective, when I got out of the Marines after 9 years in 2009 I was in zone to be promoted to GySgt (E-7). but the highest rank you can achieve out of Boot camp in the marines is (E-3). his rank is clearly why he is out.

I replied by saying Obama had a team and a staff and not just inexperienced family and friends. We offered to put a team behind him and he refused. Why would someone refused free help to campaign? This is why I agree with Clyburn that something is just not right with this victory. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt.

A lot of Democrats that I spoke with across the state care but do not think their vote will make a difference so a large amount of people do not go to the polls. S.C. has 4,561,242 people in the state and Greene gets 59% of the vote totaling 100,000 people. There is something wrong with that number if that is all who is voting.

He was in my unit in the Army. 1st infantry divison 1st balltalion 5th feild artillery Ft. Riley Kansas. i just want to say that he is most definitly unfit to be a senator. He couldn't show up to work in the right uniform. He was chaptered out of the Army for constantly disrespecting his supeiors and failure to be in the right place at the right in the right uniform. Anyone who has ever served in the military knows thats to easy.

@luvobamas That is true, but you still don't refer to yourself as being a veteran and having served in Korea. That is very misleading! There is a HUGE difference between having served in Korea in the 50s and being stationed there after that, albeit not for much longer if North Korea keeps on its current track. Semper Fi

All people who have served in the military are veterans. All people who have served in the military while in Korea are veterans who served in Korea.
BUT, if you insist on veterans serving in wars, take it two ways: 1) The US never declared war after WWII, so no one who served in Vietnam, Korea, or Iraq is a veteran, OR 2) The Korean War never ended ... the N.&S. agreed to an armistice, and then set up a border along the line of control in 1953, but never declared peace.

@S201676 This is the biggest problem we have, people making it political. Fine, don't believe me. Just wait till we get closer to November. If he tries that line again, you will hear from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, aka the VFW, who will take offense to what he said. It's one thing to hold a POST, it's another to be in combat. For a military person to refer to themselves as a Veteran of Korea just because he's been there is a no no. Your history is accurate, your definition of vet is not.

So you're desire to rephrase Mr. Greene's time as a soldier as a "veteran of the armed forces who served in South Korea during a period without combat operations" is being done just to help him out politically?
I wasn't aware that people would take issue with calling him a "veteran who served in Korea" (rather than a "veteran of Korea" which would seem to raise eyebrows).
It's all semantics really, and not being attached to any campaign, I don't see how swaying me changes anything

@S201676 Semantics to you, but not to veterans He is a veteran, yes. He held a post or was stationed in Korea but he is NOT a Korean Veteran. If I don't "sway you" that's fine. But since we have lost the real meaning of some of our holidays, specifically Memorial Day and Veterans Day, I will continue to correct errors like these until the actual meaning of the holidays are once again known and in place. We OWE this to the people who have died and/or served in combat. It matters to others.

I believe the original meaning of Veterans Day was that it was to celebrate the ending of World War I, and it was originally under the title of Armistice Day. I actually would like to see a parade celebrating the end of the World War I in November.
Here's the reason I think the semantics don't matter: there is no possibility for confusion here. People can see and tell that Mr. Greene is not 75+ years old and so everyone knows that he didn't serve in combat in the Korea.

@S201676 Has increasingly been devoted to shopping, family get-togethers, fireworks, trips to the beach, and national media events such as the Indy 500. This day is to remember those who gave their all, their lives, in the service of our country. It's nice that people say thank you for your service, but that isn't what this day is for. It grates when someone says happy Memorial day! There's nothing happy about it. From 8am to Noon, flags are to fly at half mast as we remember those who died.

@pspmichael it looks like after 13 years in the Air Force and then the National Guard he got to the rank of specialist (E-4). I know from of at least one (CBRN) soldier that got (E-4) out of boot camp because he had a collage degree which Greene apparently has. For some prospective, when I got out of the Marines after 9 years in 2009 I was in zone to be promoted to GySgt (E-7). but the highest rank you can achieve out of Boot camp in the marines is (E-3). his rank is clearly why he is out.
