No, responsible ownership should be mandatory. Dogs bark excessively because they're bored, lonely, anxious. Or some jerk breed fancier put a barky breed like Shelties in a neighborhood. Cut a dog's vocal cords, ignore the reason he's barking in the first place, and he'll act out in another way, like biting. And guess what? Debarking doesn't keep dogs from jumping on people, running into the street or pooping on the neighbor's lawn either. Responsible owners do.
This video is just propaganda for all the people who think animals are on par with human beings. It's so annoying; the whack jobs at PETA now even have a "fly catcher" instead of swatter. Absolutely retarded. I have two dogs and love them to death but they're just animals, that's it. If I have a dog living in my home he doesn't have the right to bark unless allowed anyway.
Animals feel physical pain like you do, and they're likely smarter too. Yeah, PETA is whacked. But breeders and idiots like you are worse: Whacked AND cruel. Don't like that dogs bark? Too cheap & lazy to provide proper care & training? Don't have one. Animal ownership isn't your right. It's a privilege and a responsibility. May you live with chronic laryngitis...or choke to death on your food, inhale vomit into your lungs, die of heat stroke in cool weather. Debarked dogs do.

You are all idiots if you think it is somehow painful for the dog. Many dogs are saved from being euthanized as a result of the minor procedure. Yeah it sounds bad, but it does not effect the dog whatsoever unless the procedure is done wrong.
I was just researching breeders online, and I came across a breeder who debarks all her dogs. So u came to YouTube to see if I could hear a debarked dog. My heart is broken. I know everyone has a preference, but I just feel like this is one elective surgery that is just horribly wrong! I did read and do understand that you were not her original owner. Bless you for making her last few months happy ones. She looked very happy!
@azrookie yes it does. I actually did a lot of research with many vets and tissue OFTEN doesnt grow back normally, scars develop often, you'll feel like there's an extra CHUNK of flesh in your throat, like you swallowed something that won't go all the way down. You're the idiot.

My MIL has 2 dogs, they bark but not excessively. Their neighbour next door called the council on them, the dogs had to wear bark collars put on them for a week to monitor how much they barked. When the results came back - they were told that the dogs were fine and didn't bark excessively.
The neighbour persisted and the other day, he told my mother in law he would "pay for the dogs to be debarked". My MIL told him to use the money to buy noise cancelling earphones or make himself deaf lol!

My question is, what vet would do this? My vet won't declaw cats. He refuses to. People take their money somewhere else. He says, "That's fine. I can live with myself." The orignal owners were idiots. The vet is worse.
There are so many people in this world that should never have animals. I have 3 dogs and 4 cats as a result of others' ignorance. You're doing a great service!

At everyone saying she is so horrible and stuff for doing that she DIDN'T the previous owners did it then put her in a shelter and then she adopted her!!!!
I've just adopted a male labrador, about 2 years old who was on deathrow with the RSPCA, we're questioning if he's been debarked in the past or if he had laringytis from barking too much while he was enclosed, sadly from the sounds of this video it's quite likely he has been. Thanks for posting this, human beings can truly be a disappointment taking the easy option for themselves and not what's right for their animals. Thank you for giving Molly a loving home!
at least you saved her from cruelty. if i found someone debarked their dog, i would slash out their own vocal cords. it's disgusting. praise you for taking her in. our dog is in his third home with us, as well.
Well it sounds like her last owners were very cruel, because my Chocolate Lab/Chesapeake Retriver mixed would never be debarked, because that just is a mean, cruel, and heartless thing to do.
I'll tell you what simple is that for all of us: Being a person (as you are supossed to be) you are not the one to decide what to do with a dog's bark, doesnt matter how bothering your dog can be, in the same way that you cannot decide to silence to your crying baby. The only difference, (and have that on mind) is that the dog is not your son.
And you must be an animal yourself, because this person rescued this poor animal, and gave her a loving, kind, safe home for the rest of her days. I'll tell you what you are. You are a new word, and that new word is moridicile. It is a moron, idiot, and imbecile combined. Read the first comment comment, you moridicile, she did not debark her, her last owners did.
@shadetheninja666 this owner didnt debark her. it was her first owners who abandoned her. they found her and kept this dog on her last days on earth and gave her a the best ending of life! *tear*
Molly seems like a loved and happy dog - they all do! - and it is lovely of you to have given her a home so late in life. All the ignorant people giving you a hard time don't know what they're talking about, well done to you for loving Molly and taking her in. Rescue people are great.
It's terrible that people who don't know your circumstances would swear at and abuse you. Anyone can see these are not abused dogs.
Don't wait for a visit from animal control, a court summons, or—worst of all—for frustrated neighbors to strike before you solve your dog's barking problem. PETA's caseworkers are flooded with calls from people who have been ordered to subject their dog to a cruel surgery of convenience, called "debarking," as a means to try to remedy their excessive barking. But barking is a dog's means of communicating many feelings—fear, frustration, pain, boredom, or even happiness.
I have no issue with debarking as long it is done properly & doesnt adversly affect the dog I rent security dogs from time to time for my store who have been debarked & ive given them treats & left water & seen them drink with no ill effects so it all depends on the vet doing the work
Sorry so many morons commented in the negative. Your dog is happily barking at you & not experiencing any pain or emotional distress. You obviously loved your dog enough to spend a lot of money on her instead of tossing her away. This is what a GOOD dog owner does.
hello, behavioral training! I had a chiuahua that barked all the time and very annoying and high but I never debarked her. On top of that we lived in a complex were dogs were not allowed. When the landlord said people were complaining, we would leave her with my aunt for some time. You have to deal with it, without abusing your dog or getting it debarked. Don't have a dog if you don't like barking or feel like punching it!!!!!
dimm, so you justify this as perfectly fine b/c you don't know how to take care of your own dog? a dog's behavior is reflected in the training given by its owner. i kno it's annoying, but imo, ppl should give their dogs for adoption asap instead of being selfish and trying to keep the dog unnaturally.
I agree that people should give up their dog for adoption when the dog they have is adopted. But 1. I paid over 1k for her and 2. if it were a child (like so many people on here are making the comparison to) giving my child up for adoption would be seen as inhumane. But that also means that if i want to legally reprimand my child however i choose to do so that that is my decision.
poor dog, i can't understand why people will debark a dog i find this extremely cruel and selfish, but good to hear that you gave her a nice life after her IGNORANT previous owners.
To all of the people making outraged comments, keep in mind that a lot of dogs come to shelters already debarked by the previous owners. The maker of this video may well have adopted this dog already debarked.
@Fidlo22 a dogs bark does not help its self communicate-- dogs groul too communicate.. the barking is unecessary and as you can see ,this dog prob. barked A LOT.. he barked this whole video.. im sure hes not feeling any pain and not stressed at all.. debarking saves many dogs life.. and you dont even know if she debarked him so just shut up.. it could hae been the shelter/breeder...
she will prob. feel the heat-- no need of a loud barking dog.. as you can telll he was quite the barker-- i rather train not to ark, but hes barked this whole video-- imagine if he had this voice -ANNOYING- but it is sad.. it sounds like hes out of breath and trying to speak but cant-- it makes me feel bad ..
thats like some1 taking your abbility of seach away, you wouldnt be able to communicate properly. that's horrible. i agree with the person bellow me said. thumbs up bud.
You're all ignorant. A debarked dog is no worse off than any other dog. I owned a debarked Hungarian Vizsla for 12 years, and he was a happy, loving, beautiful dog. I didn't have him debarked myself, the breeders did, but he really was fine! He still barked, growled, & sang along with music. He just couldn't be as loud. It's all very well to go around telling people off about having their dogs debarked, but obviously none of you have ever owned a debarked dog, and probably never even met one.
ok... excessive barking is usually due to a dog not being challenged. give your dog a job and walk him. i swear take him on a 3 mile walk and he'll go inside and lay down in the living room.
A domesticated dog does still use barking for communication. Be it with other dogs, or to the owner. Just because the owner doesn't understand doesn't mean it's not beneficial to a dog to vocalize. A good example is muting a human just because they don't speak the native language, and their attempts are deemed "annoying." I honestly feel if you want the blessings of owning a dog, but don't want the barking, the person has to be responsible for their pet and train it not to bark all the time.
Perhaps you missed my initial statement where I stressed that I don't need my dog to communicate anything to me. I'm a responsible and attentive owner. I need her for the company she brings to my family and my true gaurd dog (Rottweiler).
Also, comparing animal domestication to slavery is popostrous. With all do respect, I refuse to exercise this argument or any other moral quarrels. I searched for a valid scientific rebuttal. I got none, Thanks.
It's a very risky procedure. Often the operation damages more than just the vocal cords. Oftentimes it inhibits the dog's ability to breathe, and many debarked dogs choke and spit up when eating and drinking because of the damage. If a person is so annoyed by barking and is so willing to TRAIN a dog to not bark that they are willing to risk those complications, maybe they should look into getting hamsters, instead.
Not true. I found this video because I needed to compare to our dog.
She is nearly one year old and sounds EXACTLY like this even though she is a full blooded pit bull. We were not sure because she is a rescue from the streets.
I'm very sad for finding her in that state. People don't understand that dogs need to bark no matter how annoying it is.
just like everything else, theres a billion different alternatives, and mostly the reason an animal barks to much is due to its owners, some ppl make me mad :(
I know a lot of people are against debarking. To me, it is a last resort. But, there are too many dogs who loose their homes due to problem barking. And, when that is the only issue, and all else fails - I figure it's better than the pound.
Fuck the person that approves debarking and go to hell motherfuckers!

poor dog, i can't understand why people will debark a dog i find this extremely cruel and selfish, but good to hear that you gave her a nice life after her IGNORANT previous owners.
metro0011 2 years ago

@studioeriger777

thats like some1 taking your abbility of seach away, you wouldnt be able to communicate properly. that's horrible. i agree with the person bellow me said. thumbs up bud.

It's all very well to go around telling people off about having their dogs debarked, but obviously none of you have ever owned a debarked dog, and probably never even met one.
eveysedai 2 years ago
Debarking is a risky procedure that often goes wrong and leaves the dog unable to exercise, breathe, eat, and drink properly.
Eollodwyn in reply to eveysedai (Show the comment) 2 years ago
thats just fucking cruel
imagine not being able to say what you want to say
and suffer like that
the dog might develop mental issues later on
idunnosia 2 years ago
Well, I rather keep the dog the way it is rather than having it debarked. The dog sounds worse debarked
mrjimmyk1006 2 years ago
Now I know why molly out of the other 4-5 dogs got de-barked.
RBLiveFL 2 years ago
It's just sick that anyone can do this to a dog. A dog's bark is more than just its voice, it's also it's identity.
Bluebelle9289 2 years ago
that's disturbing...
mazack00 2 years ago
ok... excessive barking is usually due to a dog not being challenged. give your dog a job and walk him. i swear take him on a 3 mile walk and he'll go inside and lay down in the living room.

What's so bad about debarking a domesticated dog?
They do not use it for communication, eating, protection or any other survival tool.
This is a serious question. Somebody answer rationally.
Docta305 2 years ago
A domesticated dog does still use barking for communication. Be it with other dogs, or to the owner. Just because the owner doesn't understand doesn't mean it's not beneficial to a dog to vocalize. A good example is muting a human just because they don't speak the native language, and their attempts are deemed "annoying." I honestly feel if you want the blessings of owning a dog, but don't want the barking, the person has to be responsible for their pet and train it not to bark all the time.
Delphinus85 in reply to Docta305 (Show the comment) 2 years ago
Too little too late, but here's my response:
Perhaps you missed my initial statement where I stressed that I don't need my dog to communicate anything to me. I'm a responsible and attentive owner. I need her for the company she brings to my family and my true gaurd dog (Rottweiler).
Also, comparing animal domestication to slavery is popostrous. With all do respect, I refuse to exercise this argument or any other moral quarrels. I searched for a valid scientific rebuttal. I got none, Thanks.
Docta305 in reply to Delphinus85 (Show the comment) 2 years ago
It's a very risky procedure. Often the operation damages more than just the vocal cords. Oftentimes it inhibits the dog's ability to breathe, and many debarked dogs choke and spit up when eating and drinking because of the damage. If a person is so annoyed by barking and is so willing to TRAIN a dog to not bark that they are willing to risk those complications, maybe they should look into getting hamsters, instead.
Eollodwyn in reply to Docta305 (Show the comment) 2 years ago
Not true. I found this video because I needed to compare to our dog.
She is nearly one year old and sounds EXACTLY like this even though she is a full blooded pit bull. We were not sure because she is a rescue from the streets.
I'm very sad for finding her in that state. People don't understand that dogs need to bark no matter how annoying it is.

wow. this has got to be the most pathetic thing i've ever seen/heard. that poor animal .. how cruel!!
get a fucking basenji.
kelaltieri 2 years ago
just like everything else, theres a billion different alternatives, and mostly the reason an animal barks to much is due to its owners, some ppl make me mad :(
sebeed in reply to RubieDawg (Show the comment) 2 years ago
This is so sad. Why would someone debark a dog? If it annoys you, don't get one.
rarimmel 3 years ago
That sucks.
toholycow 3 years ago
This is an unusually bad debark. Usually the bark is just lowered in volume. A dog that's been debarked properly doesn't even notice the difference.
leftyrabblerouser 3 years ago
I know a lot of people are against debarking. To me, it is a last resort. But, there are too many dogs who loose their homes due to problem barking. And, when that is the only issue, and all else fails - I figure it's better than the pound.
UptonGirl4 3 years ago
that is so disturbing. it saddens me to see a dog who can't bark. That is one of the most horrible things you can do your poor dog
