My parents have smoked pot for over 30 years... And not shitty pot either, They've smoked the good strong stuff all that time.
In their opinion, for the most part, the stuff is the same strength now, as it was when they were kids.
There have always been strong strains and weak strains, in the cannabis family of plants.
If we are worried about pot's potency, we should legalize it, so we can regulate it properly, and set limits on product potency.

High potency marijuana is not smoked the same as regular outdoor grown marijuana. The reason is price.
Normal marijuana -$15-$25 per 1/4 ounces
High potency marijuana - $80 - $130 per 1/4 ounce.
High grade marijuana is treated like a fine wine buy most people that use it.
Either way alcohol is far worse yet no one wants to bring it up on the news. The problems caused by marijuana prohibitions are the exact reasons we ended alcohol prohibition.

Why does potency even matter???
It matters only in reference to death statistics... if the potency goes up along with the cooresponding death rate, then there is a causal relationship between increased potency and increased death. If this was the case then the potency argument would be a good one.
HOWEVER: there have been ZERO deaths caused by marijuana overdose in recorded history.... therefore the potency argument is entirely irrelevent.

And yet again we find that to control a product we must legalize it. Potency will always climb, regardless of legality (Bicardi 151 kills people).

These numbers are very skewed. You could throw a handful of seeds outside, and assuming it grows to budding, will be at least 6-7% THC. They would have to be checking stems to find anything as low as they mention.
