Khanate is the best band in history. Alan Dubin is a genius. As well as the others in the band. Go listen to their other projects each guy is involved with. Total Avant Garde madness! The best there ever was or ever will be! Check out Gnaw and Jodis too. Both amazing.

I have a feeling this music is incredibly hard to perform, especially if the audience has never been exposed to it before.

Its hard to perform also in that its so slow that you have to be extremely tight. Alot of people think "ah its slow, no problem" but would sound terribly actually trying to play it cause the feeling isn't there at all.

Counting out 21/4 time signatures at around 40-50 bpm isn't as easy as it sounds. You cant just fuck around and hope to be there with your bandmates. It requires a decent amount of concentration. And its not just the riffs. its the subtleties of the sound and the whole.

I would also expect that it takes a lot of decent connection with the other band members. I've played in a few bands, and that seemed to be the main problem: people just not being comfortable with other musicians... That's why I feel that it would be easier for music as extreme and slow as this to be written (and performed) by at most two people.

Jup! You're probably right. I guess I haven't paid enough attention to it catch it right. It sounds alot like Jazkamer(Jazzkammer) and Noxagt though - bands that have been around here in Norway for quite a while. I'll give it a second chance:) I really like some of the Norwegian metal ("black" especially), but there's so much new bad shit around, so mostly listen to the old school. Check out Aura Noir and Calle's "Virus" if you have'nt heard it allready. It's on myspace I think. Peace!
