It would have been nice if you played the entire clip. You can tax the rich all you want but the problem is it will not put a dent in our deficit unless we stop spending. The other case to be made for taxing the rich more is that because the level of income inequality has gone up so much the rich are taking so much more money out of the system that there needs to be some type of counter balance to it.
Please look at latest Warren Buffett video asking his Rich buddies to pay more tax. He wants the government to tax the RICH more. He realizes that the RICH will lose ultimately if the people don't have the money to spend and buy their products. This will impact the company's bottom line. Also, the US economy wouldn't be able to sustain itself just with spending cuts alone. We need to have Tax Revenues and Spending Cuts to come out of this mess we AS A NATION are in.
Warren Buffett? IF he truly felt that he didn't pay enough taxes, he could simply write an additional check to the government. So could anybody. But if he truly felt undertaxed, why would he take most of his money and put it in Bill Gates's tax shelter and then take charitable deductions to eliminate any tax obligations. In fact, his carry forward deductions and lower tax rate capital gains would be enough to insure he won't pay any income tax for the rest of his life.

That means that anyone cashing in $100,000 worth of stock profits only show $15,000 in income on there taxes. That coupled with of dollar for dollar deduction for charitable contributions up to 50% of there income will pay very little taxes. If you earned $100,000 from your job, you would pay about $35,000 to the government.

Please look at latest Warren Buffett video asking his Rich buddies to pay more tax. He wants the government to tax the RICH more. He realizes that the RICH will lose ultimately if the people don't have the money to spend and buy their products. This will impact the company's bottom line. But if he truly felt undertaxed, why would he take most of his money and put it in Bill Gates's tax shelter and then take charitable deductions to eliminate any tax obligations. That means that anyone cashing in $100,000 worth of stock profits only show $15,000 in income on there taxes. That coupled with of dollar for dollar deduction for charitable contributions up to 50% of there income will pay very little taxes. If you earned $100,000 from your job, you would pay about $35,000 to the government.

If you tried to tax these assets, they would have to sell most of the American industry to the Chinese, and that's assuming the Chinese would find that kind of money.

@UncontestedTruth Since the tithe is God's tax on us for occupying His earth, he only asks 10%. If civil government takes more, then civil government places itself above God. Which is idolotry. Ciivil government's only commission is justice. It has no business in welfare or social justice.
And yes, covetness is a word.

@Hughganaught The government is designed to help and protect the people. God has never given a cap on the government. Nor does it mean it is placing itself above your god. "Render unto Caesar." He didnt say "only this much."
But then again, we do not establish law based solely on what your god wants. That would be confusing seeing as how there are 3 different interpretations of your god.

@UncontestedTruth And reneder unto the Lord, that which is the Lord's You forget that part. Civil government has no jurosdiction in areas of self-government, family-government or church-government. Each has it's place, it's justosdiction. One is not to interfear with the other.
Why is it when you base laws on "my" God, that civilization flourishes? Science expands? And the blessings of prosperity and Liberty is enjoyed by all? If covetness isn't a word, then why are you useing it?

The Dark Ages was very much a result of Christendom.
Feudalism existed in Muslim countries during the Middle Ages as well, yet they experienced their golden age in poetry, art, science.

@underbjorn NO IT WASN'T. Fudalism was the political order. The christian trappings was on the back burner. The nobels and clergy was more interested in politcal control.
Christondom is the political aspect of a nation who's laws are based on common law. Yes, simular to the "ummah" But along with it was 'seculardom" That most people led secular lives.

If you really believe in the preachings of Jesus, the only place where you can survive is in places that are EXTREMELY socialist. "Turn the other cheek, give everything to the poor, don't be rich in wealth but be rich in thoughts" and all those other hippie quotes (which make no sense) that I remember from church.
