actually i was wishing to get one and i found a 2009 950 erzberg rodeo edition at my dealer that's been in the store for 2 years without moving!! brand new!!so i traded in my dr 650 2001 and got it!! i'm picking it up this week when it's ready!! i can't wait!! and can't sleep...........
i have an 08' ktm 300 xc-w for enduro's..the workmanship is superb..i have owned every major brand in the last 30 years...ktm is second to none..the person who buy's a 950 wants a bike they can cruise down the highway without putting a strain on a 650cc bikes motor and then tear the shit out of fire roads!!
it just seems to me like KTM have made this to be able to say look what we have done, then marketed it for people that just want to say they ride a 950 enduro bike, i don't think they went ''people need 950 cc's in theyre bike as 450, 530 etc just isn't enough'' it's just a statement rather than something with a real use.
this is just my opinion and i have never ridden one so please feel free to disagree.
But you got to admit it's pretty good for a 950 twin. On the other hand, a 450 (or just about any off-road bike) is better offroad and any big twin is better onroad... Only place where I'd find this useful is on gravel roads (airstrips for a 450). There you can waste a read tire or two per day going in wide slides. Still a 450 would go faster, too fast to be honest, but that's the point. 950 is heavy enough so you can use the power and still not end up going too fast.
i can't see how a bike like this could really be that competitive in enduro? i'll bet it ways a ton, is about as nimble as a bus and yea it will be massively powerfull and have enough torque to pull a train but actually in an enduro i can imagine you would do maybe half a lap before you start fighting with its weight and excessive power. i'll bet its a really nice bike to fit some roady tires and trim to and use as such, or as a long distance desert weapon.

cool bike, but you need world class skills. An intermediate rider can ride a 240lb bike in the same manner...for about $7000 less money. Yeah, it has lots of horsepower, but most of you knobs will only ride it on dirt roads. I know, I have an HP2

That thing is a bus! What a bunch of bravado. The 990 Adventure is ok cause they mostly leave it on the roads where it belongs. I think Aprilia is the new bike to watch, 71hp at the rear wheel and 270lbs 100+ mph top speed. Street legal and EFI. Good movie making though.

Double disks are not considered an advantage in off road riding. Double disks work great on pavement. When using them off road, they tend to lock up to easily and add unnessesary weight.
