@aaronrocs. I don't think that Jim Davis is from South Central. He is immersed in the Chicano culture, so I think (though I'm not sure) that he grew up with Mike (Rodriguez's character) in East L.A., which is predominantly Hispanic.
Also, due to his military training, he has a demeanor about him that is different from your average street guy, though he obviously still has a foot in that world.
The only difference between Heath Ledger and Christian Bale is that Heath Ledger didn't want to take himself too seriously as an actor. He just wanted to have fun. It's only Hollywood that made him into the popular star we all knew and took notice of. I like them both as actors; they are different from each other and so should never be compared. Consider this: Christian Bale was acting professionally since he was a child, and he's done more movies, and he's had more experience.

Never seen anybody in South Central that acts, talks or looks like Jim Davis. Good movie though, just didn't seem very realistic to me.
