@Jcolinsol That fear was quite big back then, even if it started on false rumors. And parents were (and still are) concerned for there kids enough to make sure they check the candy they get. Take a moment and realize that Halloween is the only time of year when parents let kids take candy from strangers, something that is usually frowned upon.
Heh heh, yes, parents are very frightened of strangers being nice to children, but this business about Halloween candy is a total myth. There have been one or two cases of non-lethal candy tampering, but the only cases of poisoning were perpetrated by the parents themselves. Seems like, if anything, kids should be warned that their own family is more likely to harm them, than strangers.
I loved Disney when I was younger. It was so meaningful than what it is now. Shows like Hanna Montana in no way contributes to educating kids, but just something like this is very educational. It takes the time to properly inform people about what Halloween really was. The same goes for 'Christmas'. Little do people actually know what it truly was, which was a pegan ceremony to celebrate their surviving the harsh winter.
@F1315NJ Thanks. In fact I just watched the old recording of Disney's Halloween Treat the other night. We have a tape with a whole bunch of other Halloween progams from a long time ago. I don't like them and all I can enjoy is the Disney stuff now. It was really great. Hope they release some of that gold on DVD.
Wow, the narrator not only told the history of Halloween, but also gave viewers advice on safe trick or treating which is what all parents should know and teach their children instead of locking them up from the world for the stupidest reasons. Check your bags, examine the treats, if anything looks suspicious, tell the police. Good advice there. Since I don't trick or treat anymore, I attend parties with close friends to remember that Halloween isn't just for kids.
Interesting Halloween history: Dressing up in costumes were originally started a couple of thousand years ago by Drooids, Halloween was really New Years for the wicked, and superstitions are believed by non-fictional characters such as witches and goons. What the hell? Funny, but c'mon. What about the REAL history. And the narrorator was evil all along. Hahaha...
It's amazing, they really got the history right. Well done, Disney! Now, I want to show this to nearly everyone who doesn't know the history of the holiday. *sighs* I guess I can always direct them here, to YouTube.
I read the Irish brought the custom of Halloween over(YAY!). Then the overly religious people already in America and the media hyped it up as Devil's night or worshiping evil just because they never bothered to try and understand. How'd everything get so mixed up?
Of course I don't mind the trick or treating part added. ;)
@F1315NJ It does sound like a good idea, and I would occasionally tune in, but they wouldn't do it because it more profitable to keep pieces of their collection in the vault, and then release them on discs for paying customers. Not that I mind, as it's reassuring to have something that Leonard Maltin compiled in a Disney Treasure available on your shelf.
Wonderfully nostalgic cartoon, but in reality, kids have more to fear from people they already know than from strangers (i.e. a bully or relative). Statistics clearly show this. Very few cases exist where a stranger has harmed trick-or-treaters. The old razor-in-the-apple story was based on only one incident.
It's cute children's fun! I miss the good old days when this kind of Disney shows were aired, rather than the horrible disgusting torture and unnecessary gore that goes on! It was innocent fun back then, not this gory stuff that teach kids to live in fear and fill their minds with evil. I am a teacher and see it everyday, times have changed unfortunately.
I know, people who are overreligous or easily offended by almost everything need to lighten up and see that Halloween is nothing to get upset about. Even if some bad things might have happened at the start of this holiday, that's all been changed. Yet it's also sad some overprotective parents won't let their kids trick-or-treat because of religious nonsense.

well we all know that this holiday is all paganistic right? and that we should not celebrate it right. we are taking pagan things and applying them to the Most High which we should not do it makes him angry.
Halloween is more of an event than a time of worship, isn't it?
I would be more concerned about the real Christian holidays that have seen their meaning diluted into material symbolism, such as Easter and Christmas.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
we have to be concerned with all of the holidays. hollween, christmas and easter are pagan in the non religious sense. we should not even have christmas. but to really celebrate "easter" we need to perform Passover and eat unleaven bread for 7 days. the holy days of the Jews point to the Messiah Yehshua the Adonai of Adonai the King of Kings. we have to do the holy days of the Jews we will be doing them when He returns.
How is Paganism non-religious? Most Christian holidays were borrowed and modified from the traditions of the pagans (Druids as the video says) who were unfortunately converted and assimilated.
@MacEricG True....I long for the feelings i get at Christmas time, seeing the decorations, the holly, the mistle toe, the tree, the star, the presents, the fire, the nativity scene, rudolph, frosty, and santa.......T_T
@MacEricG Actually, Halloween is a Christian holiday. Halloween is short for All Hallows Eve. "Hallow" is the Old English word for saint, as November 1st is the All Saints Day, when the Catholic Church asks for prayers from the souls that are in Heaven. November 2nd, is All Souls Day, when the Catholic Church prays for the souls of the faithful departed, in Purgatory. Halloween was traditionally seen as a day to remember the souls in Hell. These 3 days are called Hallowtide, or Days of the Dead.
@32933ad You do get that the reason we call Halloween "Halloween" is because of the church. They taught the Celts that we should hallow the dead. if it wasn't for the church it'd still be called Samhain. And there's nothing wrong with kids dressing up as monsters and trick-or-treating. And having a few good scares on that wonderful night--Oct 31st. Why would God be angry at something so innocent bringing joy to so many people, like me! All you are doing is scaring people away from Christianity.
@32933ad Christmas has Pagan rituals as well. Is Christmas evil? The pine tree (Christmas tree) was taken from a Pagan ritual, as well as Dec 25th. That was the day the ritual took place if I'm mistaken. And the Catholic church took these symbols--like Halloween-- and changed them. They put the star that guided the three wise men to Jesus on the pine tree. And they made the day of the ritual Christ's birthday.
Watch: The History of Christmas (everything fun is pagan in our holidays).
If these things made "the most high" angry sure we'd see something pretty direct like a talking cloud spitting fire LoL. Don't take these things too seriously, have fun with life.
@32933ad listen im christian and i beleive i celebrate halloween for the scares and fun its only a sin if you make it a sin get what im saying? if you do it knowing its bad and you mean it to be bad then its bad but if its just innocent fun i see nothing wrong with it
Thank you for posting, I have a question though. There was this cartoon that would air on Disney every Halloween and it was two kids, one yellow and one orange and their male babysitter (he was red) and a witch came to them and turned them into what they were dressed up as to go trick or treating, I think one was a ghost, a monster and a werewolf. I can't find it anywhere or the name.... does it ring a bell to anyone?
