this song is awesome I did last year when I was a freshman at the very end of our Spring Concert which was the very last concert of the year.. It was awesome the way it sounded in the auditorium with all the choirs singing it at once
nin456 may not like Rutter but that's common - my choral society either loves or hates the man! This is one of his easier works and so beautiful - I can't fault this. If anyone can complain about this, they should try being part of a performance of Rutter's Magnificat! That'll teach them how to read music.
@zippyninny I find it amuzing that most folks probably like yourself can't carry a tune in a bucket but yet find the license to critisize others who do what you in a million years cannot come close to rendering.
all the voices are perfect! kudos specially to the tenors. its hard to maintain such soft light tone when you have to turn up the volume.. this is so far the best version of this song i've heard. beats most world renowned choirs i know
The Brighton Secondary School have a long reputation of having an excellent world class music program, especially choral program. It is also a Government-funded (what we call Public) school. I didn't even go to the school!
Um, no. Smiling makes the sound more lateral and less pleasing; the more vertical the mouth-> the more space inside the mouth-> a more pleasing tone. Very first thing they teach us in any choir, and the directors here harp on that if we forget it. You can look happy and energized without sacrificing tone.
By the way, the sopranos here have a lovely clear, bell-like quality on their high notes, so they're doing absolutely fine.
small pointer to you friend, the form of the mouth does not necessarily dictate how much space is in your mouth. That is controlled more by the tongue being flat and the upper gum (sp?) raised. In fact, my lips can be touching, but the inside of my mouth can be wide open and spacious.
You are absolutely spot on with your comment about smiling. Particularly with regards to tone. Big problem with a lot of choirs who may have pefect pich is a lack of smiles and consonants.
John Rutter lives really close to me and iv met his son so I should be a big fan of his work...but I'm not. I just don't enjoy his choral music that much. It feels predictable and not particularly emotional. However I can tell this is a great choir.
very good. but I would like to suggest something... maybe make the singers face light up than frowning. make it more interpretative. i love your voices, dont waste them.. conductor is very good. good job.
gorgeous! your pure tone and amazing blend are PERFECT for this song! Chorale sings this every year for the last high school choir concert of the school year, and we learn this song when we first start high school. Every time I think about this song I want to cry because I'm a senior and will be singing it soon for the last time... but it is a truly beautiful song and you sang it brilliantly!
lovely, just discovered Rutter and several renditions of this particular work. Well done. please compare with "les choristes" live au palais des congres. A masterpiece and thank you for posting it on Youtube
ps Can anyone please let John Rutter know how happy he has made people?
Beautiful

From Spain: a wonderful version. Sung with great sensitivity and style. Many choirs sing it, but few can sing like you.
