Why make a robot look like a human, making them like insects would be much more efficient in terms of labour. ants for example. humans are physically built to hunt other animals and run and manipulate the environment; would you really want a thing built to be a slave to do all that?

LOL, I remember seeing this in the theatres, and thinking "Household robots in 2005? No way!" Here we are in 2010, and still no household robots.

Of course, I don't think we'll have robots like Andrew even by 2020. That kind of sophisticated android is still at least two or three decades away, and only the super rich will be able to afford one. But the family presented here, if the time is changed to 2035, would be plausible.

The Three Laws of Robotics comes into effect in 2002 according to Asimov's timeline (who died just before the turn of the century) and it's about correct for our present technology to at least understand. However, our work on cybernetics is lagging behind Asimov's optimistic outlook by a decade or so. 'I, Robot' takes place in 2058.
