believe it or not ... This lady Clara Ward help raise Aretha Franklin ........I can hear the Influence she had on Ree vocal styling.... Ms.Ward had such an unhappy life but she sang for the Lord until she couldn't anymore.
Clara Ward was also a love intrest of Aretha"s father, Rev. C.L. Franklin. Clara served as sort of a seroget mother for Aretha, Who's mother died when she was 10 and who was also a gospel singer.
If you look closely at the end of Clara's song, the older lady standing next to Clara looks like her mother Gertrude. Could her mother have been in the movie ?
In the origional group they added another awesome soprano Esther Ford who incidentally joined Marion Williams as the soprano on all of her early recordings and is still screaming today with her own group. Also Marion was added prior to Carrie Williams or Sandra Peyton and was still there after,
The late Clara Ward (RIP) is one of the most famous figures in American music. Her Famous Ward Singers was a musical training ground that launched many famous gospel artists. In addition, Clara was the piano teacher and mentor for the pre-teen Aretha Franklin. Clara taught Aretha her "chord style" of playing, resulting in some of Aretha's fantastic self-accompaniment on her tracks for Chess-Checker/Columbia/Atlantic, and some for Arista.
LOL!!! That's funny....maybe so....but maybe not. The people didn't do that when Elvis was a teenager, attending Rev. W. Herbert Brewster's church. Some of the former members of the church said that he fit right in. I wonder if he ever shouted tho...Go'head Elvis! LOL!
Not so. We did not stop marching during the civil right movement during the early 60's.I was only 11 years old, so I tagged along with my parents out of curiosity) We marched with Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer in the Mid Delta of Mississippi. We were threatened by whites. Most of us, if not all, were scared as heck, but we were told not to run, so we didn't.
True....plus that was the style during those days. In the group, first, it was Willa Ward....then other sopranos such as Carrie Williams, Sandra Peyton, and Marion Williams were added. That was just before 1958, but after 1958, Mildred Means, Jessie Tucker, Edna Crockett, Agnes Jackson, Adele Scolfield, and a couple other sopranos were a part of the group. All of them were great!

We just don't have music like that today. No disrespect to Yolanda and the rest, but today's gospel does not rise to the same level.
