Thanks, I just ordered a Yamaha psr-e423 package through your link. It's backordered, but hopefully I'll be playing it in less than a month. For you guys who said you can't afford the cheapest one, B&H also has a buy now pay later option with no interest or payments for six months, plus right now you get 20 bucks off when you spend $100 or more. No one else online was even close to their price, plus the package came with two years of extended warranty. Thanks again, your videos are great!
No. Try the Yamaha Piaggero NP 11. The yamaha piaggero NP-11 is only $145 and has a really full sound. It's amazing, it works amazingly. The sound is just downright incredible. Try it. Anyone looking for a keyboard, regardless if you're a beginner or pro, the Yamaha Piaggero NP-11 is for you. Cheap and full.
I saw this a little too late I just found your lesson videos..but how would you rate a casio?? I just got an amazing deal on black friday for a casio wk-200. I learned to play when I was younger back in school and wanted to get back into things..the keyboard came with four 30 minute lessons free. Though idk if i need them now thanks to you..LOL. What would be some good uses of these lessons now with a live instructor since I plan to learn all the basics with you now.
Thank you SO much for making this video. Im glad I've stumbled upon you through related videos because I've been searching for the right piano for me, and you've given me great information; I've decided on the Yamaha YPG-535. I'm a beginner, and I can't wait for this piano at Christmas! (; you're great!
@FlemNation i saw that they had a casio on the site for around $80 something dollars you should check it out. So far its the cheapest one i have been able to find. I use to have it and its not a bad beginner keyboard, it's not the best quality but it's good for starting out. Hope this helps :)
@Lypur Thanks to the site recomendation i already found a keyboard i want. I found a 76 key casio for $169 which is in my budget range. Since i'm a beginner i don't think best quality is needed right now and i can't afford an expensive piano right now. When I reach my year goal maybe i'll treat myself with a better quality one and work up :) anyway thank you for the lessons! Thanks to you i found something i really love and enjoy.
I'm a beginner, used to play when I was younger and I wan't to get back to it. With this in mind and considering that my budget is not very high, what do you think about the Yamaha P-95? Is it a good digital piano? Thanks
checked australian equivalent, first result for the Yamaha Piaggero NP-V80 Lightweight Digital Piano(just the piano, no budget) was... wait for it... $849!
arg australia you're killing me.
Oh well, i have this 61 key cassio which will do fine for learning.
This might be a stupid question but I noticed that the yamaha dgx 640's specifications said it had 88 keys. Since it's $800 i prefer not to buy it but the one that i'm interested in ( the yamaha psr e423) didn't say it had 88 keys. Are they different, like does one have 88 keys and one doesn't?
Hey, thanks a lot for the keyboard recommendations, I do know from experience the Yamaha PSR E423 is a very nice Keyboard for under 300$ (Gotta also buy a Power Adapter) , I have a Yamaha YPT 320 for about 139$, free shipping comes with Power Adapter.
Yamaha PSR E423
Features Cut-Off, Resonate, Duel, Split, Reverb, Chorus, - 150 arpeggiator Pattern, After Touch Sensitivity (and more effects) and over 700 sounds and the quality of sounds is excellent, and a few fun Drum Kits, Plus a 6 Tracks
Im use a midi keyboard M-AUDIO keystation pro 88 and with cubase and ivory pianos vst you have more good sound than other expensive electric pianos xd.
Neat, I'll definitely use your affiliate code next time I order something from B&H.
Btw, you're shooting video with your 550D right? Have you checked out the Magic Lantern project? It's basically an alternative firmware that adds cinematography specific features (originally written for the 5DmkII, but I think they have support for the 550D now as well). Might be something to check out and play with.
Could bump your overall production quality a few % or so, who knows?
Haven't heard anything too good about DGX640, Lypur. I think if you'd try out a Roland FP-7F or 700NX, you'd be blown away. I almost bought a DGX640 based on your old website recommendation. It's easy to recommend a Yamaha, but there are tons of great brands like Korg, Kawai, Nord.
Hi Andrew. I really appreciate all of your tutorials. They are helping me so much. My husband just bought me a Yamaha P155B Contemporary Piano. It hasn't arrived yet, but I'm wondering what your take is on this digital piano? I sure would appreciate your feedback.
B&H is a great business. I use them for photography related purchases. Just want to point out another great digital piano -- the Yamaha P85 or P-95. Excellent entry level for those of you on a budget.
Hey Andrew! Great videos! I think this piano comparing idea is great!
I don't own a piano yet but I definitly consider buying one. But there are a lot of factors to consider though: the price, the number of keys, piano size, Jack audio output and volume control, etc.
So as a beginner with a limited budget I began considering Yamaha E323, NP30, NP V60/V80 but then a guy in a piano store almost convinced me that I should go with a 88key piano rather than a 76key keyboard. Thanks for the gr8 vids!
I own a yamaha DGX 630. I love it. Before I purchased I researched different models and makes and read hundreds of reviews. For the money I believe it is awesome. I use Musicians Friend but I am not adverse to trying BH Photo. I am a vocalist and own severeal different products. I really like watching your videos. I am 58 and trying to learn piano in between a very busy schedule I am improving but where I am way ahead is in theory. Thank you for being you.
Hi! I want to upgrade from Casio CDP 100 to a digital piano of an upper range but, unfortunately, you only recommend stage pianos for that range. I don't intend to carry it/move it from place to place but instead I want it firmly placed at my home. What your recommendation would be for a digital piano Pro Level, within a budget of $2,000 - 4,600? Thank you!
About 2 months ago I bought Yamaha PSR-E423 and I started to learn. For the beginning it is probably ok, sounds fine, sustain pedal works good, has some useful features, unfortunately this model has only 61 keys but at least you can quickly move the octave -2 +2 . In conclusion - this is a good choice for those wishing to start to learn to play piano and have a very limited budget.
I Really LIKED all your lessons as a 25 year piano player/teacher, great lessons and I learned a little along the way. The problem I have is you selling out to certain Keyboards that seem to me sub par - depending on budget. Why not say Korg, versus Yamaha, versus Roland, versus Casio is better??? I'm partial to Roland, but you limited it so much to one or two choices of the same brands, please explain why? Listeners need to know what is best for them, thanks and I'll still be listening!
@buminbeer2 i think it's because he hasn't tried them all (isn't it obvious?). after all, that's only his suggestion, i highly doubt he's even scratched the surface with all the possible pianos. this means you still have to do research by yourself and figure out what's the best deal for you and your needs.
Hey, I am a beginner and I have a really small budget for a very cheap keyboard. Can someone tell me if there's any difference between the $150 Yamaha YPT-210 and a no name keyboard that looks somewhat the same, but costs $70?
@mariusstp Try finding a used Fatar 990 or 1100 (also called StudioLogic 990 or 1100) for around 80-120 Eur. You will also need a Midi to USB Adapter for around 15-20 Eur.
@Cat6768 I got a casio that cost like $2400 when it came out for $125 6 months ago.. It's pretty good, especially with headphones, the speakers aren't wonderful... I don't get the hate..
Find a great deal, people have this kinda shit lying around because they are too lazy to keep learning..
Hi there, you don't have to excuse yourself because you are an affiliate and you are making money when one buys a piano through those links, it is a normal situation. Beside thousand of thanks, some money wont hurt everyone, so ,good luck and hope that you get lots of sales.
What do you think about the Korg sp170? I played it in my local music store for a couple times, and I think it's amazing for the very little money. (about 500€) because they focused on the important stuff like the keys and the sounds, and stripped "everything" else off. Imo a great practicing piano. I've to buy it myself yet, thought... (I hate being a student)
@ionas82 Must be MP-9500 not MPK 9500. Must be Fatar 1100 not 110, got the 1100, the Action (for that price) is awesome. THe Kawai MP Keyboards have real wooden keys and mechanic action. Check youtube or google.
i got a yamaha p-140s for 900€ a couple years ago altough the p-155 that came out later is better and the price is probably rly close, if not the same (i might be totaly wrong here tho').
I bought a digital piano for 500 euros a few years back (Casio CDP-100). Just like you said you get what you pay for, wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. Maybe I'll buy one of the pianos you linked, one day.
Thank you so much, I've been sitting here wishing I could learn to play the piano but I don't have a piano...and just decided to see if you posted any new videos and saw this! Perfect timing :D I'm so excited!!!
Should I say I love you, you are amazing you couldn't upload this video on a better time tomorrow I will buy my piano so this was very helpful thanks a lot :)
I actually just got a DGX-640 last month, it was great to hear that you would recommend it to a beginner yourself. :D I'm actually very happy with it, piano sounds good too me, and I really like all the extra voices. With the extra voices I always feel you play differently, to like try and suit that voice, its pretty fun. You would be pretty cool with a digital yourself, Andrew, you'd probably enjoy the voices. And for other videos? Well, you've enough to keep me going. :D
Buddy...no explanation needed if you make a small percentage off each sale. You derserve it for the sacrifice you make to allow people to learn the piano at no cost. Your are GREATLY appreciated!! If I had known this sooner I would have spent a little extra, and chosen one of your picks just to give back. Be blessed
i have a piano sound just like andrews. it's basically a M audio keystation 88es USB controller and a copy of the software 'Alicia's Keys' which models a Yamaha neo grand. I can barely tell the difference when playing along. Total cost for keyboard and software: 255.
As for more portable workstations, i would recommend Korg.
My first pro-board is the Yamaha Motif XS8... It's still my only board and I honestly feel I bit off more than I can chew which can be a good thing. I can use this board for a long time and learn it's in's and outs as I progress...
I have the DGX 640. Most people who want to play I guess 88key clavinolas are for them. DGX is good for learning, bad for any band project other than playing by yourself. You don't really need a stage piano until you're a professional. Korg is awesome and M50, Triton models = good choices. M-Audio = cheap, best for people who want to work with virtual instruments. Afraid your piano doesn't have a modwheel? all parameters can be changed in daws to use pitchbend as modwh.. Buy korg or m-audio. :)
The word you were looking for was review for the pianos :3 oh you could use a sub website and create a poll for songs your willing to teach them. Like every week so we can vote on songs we wana learn that would be awesome ^w^ but don't push yourself its up to you and by the way great job on the video x3
I'm a happy owner of M-Audio Keystation 88es - quite cheap MIDI keyboard that's full sized (88 keys).
It's a "pure MIDI keyboard", so you need a computer to actually hear anything (but I guess you already have one if you're reading this comment (-: ), and it only has "semi-weighted" keys, but it costs just around 250USD.
I think the PX 500-L is great if you have noone to learn with. It's a great beginner keyboard as it has 88 weigthed keys but also has lighted ones. You can easily learn your first songs that way. The lighted keys really help you getting better fast just by yourself :)
Please tell me what do you think about the Novation SL MKII? i'm thinking of buying it, because i need those midi controls, but i'm also interested in the quality of the keys. Thanks.
What were your criteria to put a piano in the different lists? Looks like all your pianos have sound synthesis. If you have a PC, you can reduce the overall system price. E.g. last Christmas I've bought the really nice Studiologic SL-990 Pro for my brother and his girlfriend, which is a master keyboard with MIDI output, only. Then on PC buy e.g. Pianoteq (they have a free testing version), install an ASIO driver for low latency and you'll get a Pro setup within the beginner budget price range.
@bigbagron I have the Axiom, it's great, had no problem so far. You will need a bigger hand tho, keys are biger and they are weighted, it's really nice.
p155 for sure if you are looking around the $1100. i got mine for $1400 in canada, with a stand and after tax. please invest some money on weighted keyboards, and 88 keys, they'll last you for many years and never need a tune up.
and if you're looking for rich sounding headphones, check out AKG K701, that can be bought for around $200 USED, and trust me, people keep them clean and undamaged. and you can always remove the earpads to clean in the washer.
Brother you need to start buying and storing tin foods, rice, water, because things are about to happen now like never before....... and the main stream media are not telling anyone... Its getting very serious now start researching about whats happening with the food, water, what FEMA are doing buying out all the freeze dry foods, why there are 800 FEMA camps in the U.S alone... You need to start getting ready brother for whats about to come.......
B&H is a great company, they've always provided superior customer service and prices over most online competitors I've dealt with through the years. The reason they can offer items at such a low price is because they don't have a lot of overhead costs compared to a physical retail store, meaning they sell their products almost at wholesale. Newegg does the same thing with computer parts.
U couldve summed this s whole thing into like two minutes

I just need to learn how to play like you. Keep up the great work.

Have it, Midi Master only, no Samples:
For around $USD 200-300 I recommend a USED Fatar 110 or Fatar StudioLogic 1100,... the 990 does it too. (Also buy Pedals)

For around $USD 1000 I recommend a used Kawai MPK 9500
For around $USD 1100 I recommend a used Kawai MP-8 (have it)
For around $USD 1200 I recommend a used Kawai MP-8 MK II

@ionas82 Must be MP-9500 not MPK 9500. Must be Fatar 1100 not 110, got the 1100, the Action (for that price) is awesome. THe Kawai MP Keyboards have real wooden keys and mechanic action. Check youtube or google.

Love your videos but that static in your mic drives me crazy. And the mic kinda adds a 'buzz' to your voice.

Be blessed

kurzweil is a great brand of keyboard, however they tend to be quite expensive. AMAZING sounds

i have a piano sound just like andrews. it's basically a M audio keystation 88es USB controller and a copy of the software 'Alicia's Keys' which models a Yamaha neo grand.

ArchSaur 1 year ago
They are very well priced, but the shipping and tax to the UK cost more than the actual piano. lol
I may as well buy the piano in the UK and save on shipping. :)

I think the PX 500-L is great if you have noone to learn with. It's a great beginner keyboard as it has 88 weigthed keys but also has lighted ones. You can easily learn your first songs that way. The lighted keys really help you getting better fast just by yourself :)

@jskillz206 Cool, I was thinking about saving up for one. I have a Yamaha PSR-280 but I can't install the drivers for it. I think it's too old :\
bigbagron 1 year ago
@bigbagron I have the Axiom, it's great, had no problem so far. You will need a bigger hand tho, keys are biger and they are weighted, it's really nice.
filipv4u 1 year ago
@bigbagron great key action, especially if you're playing synth leads. i prefer heavier keys for piano songs but it's a great MIDI controller
andrewh817 1 year ago
@bigbagron it does not have 88 keys. And probably is not weighted or not weighted heavier at the bottom and lighter at the top (like a piano).

p155 for sure if you are looking around the $1100. i got mine for $1400 in canada, with a stand and after tax. please invest some money on weighted keyboards, and 88 keys, they'll last you for many years and never need a tune up.
and if you're looking for rich sounding headphones, check out AKG K701, that can be bought for around $200 USED, and trust me, people keep them clean and undamaged. and you can always remove the earpads to clean in the washer.
