There are plenty of compositions by Liszt that refute the ignorant claim that he was just a superficial, musically deficient showoff, but I just discovered that this is one of the better ones, almost up there with Benediction de Dieu or Harmonies du Soir. It's a sign of a good composer if work of this quality is overshadowed by his other work.
