  • I lived next door to Gatemouth in Slidell, LA from 90-93. Got to go to the NO jazz fest with him in 93 and was onstage. GOt some great pix. Great man! Miss him!

  • Considering that Gate hated New Orleans jazz and the NOLA music culture in general, he would no doubt be rolling over in his grave at the thought of a "jazz funeral" for him.

  • All these years I didn't He Had Died ,Thanks For Posting.I met him in Winston-Salem in

    93.Cool Cat.

  • I still have the Album he signed for me back in 1987! R.I.P. Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown!

  • I miss Gatemouth, I was fortunate to be able to play bass with him at Rosies in the late 70's, He was a great bandleader . when the music was ripping... he would just turn around and cut this big grin to the band...Years later, I went to see him at Jazz fest in 1990, and he still remembered the time. RIP Gatemouth.. He was a big influence with me for sure... Ed R.

  • I played on a show with Gatemouth Brown at the Meadowbrook Music Theater on the campus of Oakland University In Auburn Hills, Michigan.

There was a bar b q dinner for the musicians afterwards and we had dinner together. We sat across from each other and chatted. What an experience. I had no idea what a legend he was. What a treat. Butch Mason. Michigan

  • he never considered himself a blues guitarist, or really any particular style guitar player. he fealt himself a musician. i have heard of so many just plain old "nice" things that he has done for people. for me, he had passion and feel. just listening to him has taught me a lot, when i look at my guitar.

  • @elletsco Ouvi o Clarence no free jazz Brasil por volta de 1995 até hoje procuro aquela música que ele tocou no violino com muito sentimento, domínio e tecnica, que pena que ele se foi, que Deus o tenha!

  • :( I wasn't aware of his passing... I think the world's a little bit dimmer now.

  • I think I'm gonna cry. this is exactly what i want to happen at my own funeral. a celebration of my life, not a mourning of my death. thank you. <3

  • That is a great way to describe a Second Line. A celebration of life.

  • There was no one like him. Thank you for this precious footage.

  • I was fortunate enough to play guitar for 'Gate' on the road, back in the 70's. This is just what I needed.
