  • I have a 403 in my 1987.It has a Walker dual exhaust system on it.When it's running in the driveway it rattles the windows on mine and my neighbor's house! :)

  • i put a 403 in mine to i love it i have a 1978 cutlass my first car stillll have her a 1996 cadi eldarado etc very fuking fast car and a 1996 devillll and a 1953 pontiac two doooor project love it thyat etc is alll black fulllllly loaded man very very fast i put a 100 shot on it and a chip she willl run over 185 mph i grew up out side of detorit in windsor its only cadi and olds for the guys that want to go fast in classs

  • you have a very nice car, i have an original 79 maual trans 5.7 deisel, where could i find a good olds block, because anyolds block will hook up to the tranny, i would love to have a 455 4 spd:)

  • @markmarshall39 Blocks are getting hard to find I would look online maybe on Kijiji or maybe 442.com look for some olds sites like Oldspower etc.

  • @markmarshall39 convert the diesel to gas and make a custom stroker,you would just have to do a few mods to the bloock any gas part except a small block crank will work or pick up bill travatos book

  • @hoolio2295 I am running Vortec Muffers I did not like the drone that I had with the flowmaster that I had

    they are a 3 chamber muffler and with my 307 I picked up a 1sec at the track in the 1/4

  • Makes me miss my '80 Cutlass Calais. It even had factory alloy wheels. The same ones used on the 79 H/O, but gray instead of gold. But I with a family to support and zero time and money to spend on it, I sold it. The guy who bought it originally only wanted it for the front half of the frame and suspension for a street rod. Fortunately, once I explained how rare the wheels and how uncommon it's Calais trim were, he decided to put a 425 he had laying around in it and drive it.

  • I have a 77' 403 in my 83' hurst /olds, this motor runs ,drives and sounds great off course with small modifacations, headers,mufflers and 650 edelbrock and a 292 camshaft. 300 hp is fine with me !!!

  • @locomarine13 It should have little stickers on it around the fan shroud that tell. If it's missing them just google the year model and look at what all kinds they had, should narrow it down a bit at least. And for the transmission I would guess that it's a TH350. But if it's an olds transmission the housing will be a little different from a chevy bell housing. Good luck with your car!

  • You cant rev/boost a 403 unless its a '77 casting (77-79)...the 78-79's had piss-poor blocks...that said even a '77 has its limits. I played the game w/ Mondello catalogs years ago...epic win= aftermarket aluminum 403 block!

  • sucks you cant do much to olds 403s. I have one sitting in my garage that i was gonna rebuild and throw in my 72 but it isnt worth it cause I have a built 350 rocket. Nebuddy want this engine its complete heads and everything? doesnt have headers though.

  • What do you mean you can't do much with the Olds 403? They make aftermarket aluminum heads for them, intakes, forged parts, as well as countless custom camshafts. What more would you need? Hell, if you wanted to, you could convert any single plane 403 manifold into fuel injection, slap on a turbo w/MegaSquirt ECM, and call it a day. There is so much you can do to the 403 it isn't even funny....

  • my buddy's built 403 has had this problem for 2 years now,it runns lean at idle,but fine other wise,has got huge jets in the carb,tried multiple acc pumps,three diff. carbs,stll got this prob.the 403 gremlin has struck again. oh yeah,he still runs in the 12's.i have,yes,a built 307,that runs 14.9's.

  • The engine seems to idle fine, but when it's revved, a hesitation is clearly present. My guess would to be to rework the ignition timing (add more initial), and/or increase the shot of the accelerator pump.

  • need to take out a little more timing running 94oct pings under WOT unless running race fuel

  • Try limiting the centrifugal advance, while using more initial.

    You can limit the centrifugal by in a (small)number of ways.

    As you may know, getting the timing correct, with all that's involved, seems to be a lifetime goal.

    Even if you can get the timing just right.... If the day heats up or octane ratings drop, the thing'll start pinging again.

    And I really think that pump shots needs to be augmented, in some way

  • Also to add i will have 15x4 on the front and 15x8 on the rear aluminum. That should shave more weight out of it.

  • What things did you do to make it in the high 12's low 13's? My car is not going to have the AC, power windows, stock upper a frames, am replacing with tubular i will have a 4 inch cowl hood that weighs about 25 lbs. Also adj drag shocks. The trans will have a shift kit and a full rebuild. Crane cam Power Max with lifters, ANy suggestions for a torque converter? This is just a brief list of what am doing

  • Most of the the work that I have done is to the driveline 403 11:1-+ comp forged pistons big cam intake Trans is a worked over 2004r with a 2600 stall and a 3:73 rear I picked up a second just by replacing the exhaust 2.5" with vortech mufflers ran a 15.2 with a 145hp 307 at the track.

    what are they?

  • those are lightning rods from hurst. dont think hurst makes them for automatics like this anymore just for lenco transmissions. the shifter on the right is for park reverse neutral overdrive and drive. when you put the left stick in drive you can manually shift the right stick into first gear then the middle one into second then it will automatically shift into third then you move the left stick up into overdrive. if you just shift it into overdrive it will shift itself just like any other auto

  • try the the junk yard ebay craigslist or recycler thats were i get all my stuff at. usally all g bodys are same and fit, just make sure you mesure your moldings cause some of them are a little different sizes GOOD LUCK!

  • my brother has a federal motor from 71 and its got the 268, edel, etc, its got 362hp@5700 and 370tq@5200...its a buick 350(0.030 over) but its not whole a lot different than a chevy, hope i was some help...

  • The Cutlass is about 3800lbs with air I have everything working on the Olds, it was built to run 12.80 at the track and on paper it sould do that with no problem. I have had the same car at the track with a 145hp 307 and it ran 15.2

  • Sounds bad ass man. Those 403's are strong running motors. My Grandfather had a '78 Holiday 88 Coupe with the 403 that he bought new. Even stock that thing would smoke the tires to no end, torquey as hell.

  • I got a 1980 Cutlass Supreme, with chev 350, got edelbrock intake, 4bbl edelbrock carb, mild cam, summit headers w/ 2 and a half inch tru duel. Think i got a dana 10 bolt, no posi. still got 3.8L gear ratio. Pulled 14.7 at Norwalk Raceway open headers and 116 octane gas.

  • Good luck with the build You are going to need to cut 600-800lbs out of your car to get it down to 3100 mine is 3850lbs with me in it

    there are no guaranties what the car will run. It sounds like you should be able to pull it off what are you planning for the trans and what are you engine plans?

    mine is running low 13's to high 12's

  • go with 350 heads 69-70 on the 403 use the bigger valves and go with forged pistons, roller rockers, good intake and cam that is designed to work with the combo that is the most important
