Why they region locked them after having the GBA and the DS region free, we may never know.

@rainechoo primarily, so companies can make more money (used to have something to do with the complexity of the language system). so that way someone in country A won't go buying a game in country B when the game is cheaper in country B

I thought that was the reason why they advised against it in manuals and stuff, then again no one reads those. :P

But with region free systems, they'd be able to sell games without people having to worry about having to buy another system only to have it not work with the voltage of the power outlets in their home country or something silly like that, and then buying less games. If that made any sense. It sounded better in my head regardless.
