  • So it is really that important to update a blog. It is worth having sometime listening to what Google masters has to say about a particular topic.

  • thanks for sharing!

  • who the fuck can't figure this out on himself?

  • common sense

  • this is an excellent video, Matt- thank you for sharing!

  • Thanks matt...i was searching for this answer

  • hey i have problem at alot of vids and not just me alot of ppl i try more than 40 vids and all of them says "erorr occored, please try again later" so any 1 have selotion for this problem and youtube most solve it cuz not just my pc

  • So why does Google return 50 blog posts repeating the same rubbish PR release about the iPhone4 then?

    Seems quantity often beats quality.

  • Combining the best of both, if you can or so desire, is a great way to both keep return visits high AND get the results you need in the engines. In order to score for around 6000 keywords that send one of my sites traffic each month, I had to build up a rather large spectrum of topics over time.

Makes the process easier when you're doing posts in between your A List content or you won't be able to take advantage of the long tail as quickly.

  • he said tector.com?

  • Thanks Matt!

  • Great video, this is a great explanation for clients who ask about blogging

  • nice point that matt is getting across...

but i would answer the question by saying, update index pages regularly so that search engines find ur new pages quicker, and maintain old content without too much editing on article pages so that google knows what it's likely to be sending people to see :)

  • MAtt. You say that content is king. I have unique quality content, and was getting 100 visitors a day from google. I moved the site from a dedicated host to a shared host.... the same site, same content you claim is king, the traffic I was getting from google dropped to 5 ... I am about to abandon the blog (it is about actionscript tutorials)

  • Related videos: RickRoll'D... lol? o_O

  • I wonder if there is something like MattRolling someone :D

  • I write my blog about things I am interested in that seem to have been missed by other people. The problem is its all to unfocussed (maybe the polite word would be "eclectic"). One of these days I will decide what its going to be.

  • I can think of only three reasons why you'd want to post regularly: 1) you make money through advertising, 2) you are seeking superficial popularity, or 3) you are easily bored and have a lot of free time. In the long run, quality (rather than just regular posting) probably will be most satisfying for both the person posting something and the person viewing it. And satisfaction will in the long run increase your profits and/or your popularity. But if you enjoy posting regularly, then do so.

  • if I had a penny for every time you say "here's a fun question"...

  • How do I unsubcribe?

  • @GradyBaby13 You don't :)

  • @TechieGeek1

Ha! I just did! Who's the geek now? ah....I mean.....ok, bye

  • Surprised Matt didn't point out the obvious misconception about PageRank in the question. PR is purely a number based on inlinks, it has absolutely nothing to do with update frequency, or even what the actual content is.

  • awesome video I added it to my likes :)

  • Interestingly enough, I've found myself automatically skipping the top five Google results to get to the information that I was really looking for.

    Thanks!

  • Very informative Matt! :)

  • I've been wondering about the answer to this for a long time, thanks Matt

  • I still think that yes this is correct but then you can go check sites like engadget.com and gizmodo and even the hot hot hot mashable they do post some posts filled to the brim with content while others are short and to the point. Just posting this to make people aware of what's out there. Finally I'll mention Boing Boing which also perform well in the search engine. But you'll notice they all do have the odd high quality post.
