I love this song, but there's one lyric that I don't understand: "But I only knew the Indian 'cuz his brother's a dealer." Wouldn't that make the dealing brother Native American, too? Native American tribes are ethnic groups, not occupational titles.
@wicaco I know the Indian he's talkin' about: his name's Tyrone and he's a dirty half breed, so hes not a true red Indian but he does have some great weed :)
timpovvikings get shot hahaha frankie is soo fuking amazing u r possibly the shitest person ever man. :p im only 15 and i love francis dunnery seen him 4 times already
Barrios maybe It Bites had run the course - we don't know the true reasons why many great groups such as IB split. Besides, his solo stuff I think is really autobiographical and honest. So much music out there is total shit with no substance. Gotta give him credit for writing from the heart. I can't put my finger on why I adore his solo stuff - I just do.
@BarriosGroupie hehe- don't know if it is neccesarily wiser to not smoke "dope", but Francis DEFINATELY don't smoke!!Totally clean as far as I know, and I know:)Still a genius-this is also the song which made me sit up and notice him.
Word cant describe what i think of francis, followed him with it bites all the way to a recent concert on his tall blond hellicopter tour,brilliant.......
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yeah, talking. We can all talk a story and strum a few chords. If you gonna do the whole 'story telling' thing then make it interesting or have a point. Francis isn't jazz or blues, he's a prog rock whore and always will be. The new concerts certify that.
This particular performance is what catapulted me headlong into the rest of his stuff. I don't think there is much has done that I don't own at this point. Guy is brilliant!
Francis is doing a House concert at our house on Sunday 25th May.We are sooooo excited. We've waited for 2 years for the confirmation of this gig and now its going to happen.
It was really fantastic. What a talented guy. He's got a personality that would fill an aircraft hanger but he's just so normal with it.He'd had a really bad cold a few days before our gig but his voice although obviously suffering badly from the after effects just took on a different quality and was still fascinating to listen to.Go to a house concert if you get the chance. We will remember ours for the rest of our lives,it was brilliant.
i have followed frank and before ! its bites ! this recording does him no credit ?? he is a truly talented guy !!! amazing singer song writer !!! and a dam impressive guitarist !!!
Have to disagree. This recording does him loads of credit. He's a truly amazing songwriter/singer/guitarist/producer and it's wonderful to hear him absolutely stripped back to the basics.
mate i was not !! slaging off one of greatest singer song writers guitarists producers and all the stuff i love about him !!! i was just saying !! it is a shame the video sounds like the tape may have streached !!!!!! Please lets not get into a !! who's the best ?? i'm to old and can't be arsed !!!! francis to me is a truly great all round ALL !!!
Have to admit the recording quality is bloody awful. It's just a video I had that I wanted to share. Long live Frank and long live It Bites. Nice to here from a fellow fan.
Interesting...never heard of the guy...but I just got an invitattion to hear him play at a friend's house...they must know him and he must be willing to play a house party.
A fab song but as good as Frank's solo stuff is; he really should be backed up by Jon,Dick and Bob. It bites without Frank is like Rush without Alex Lifeson. As accomplished as the current lineup are, I just cannot make the transition. An utter tragedy!!
Agreed. They were surely 4 of the most complimentary musicians on the planet. All good individually but together devastatingly good. The world's biggest band that never was, i genuinely believe that.
i'm a huge fan of dunnery. i happen to love all his solo work even though it was a step in a totally different direction from it bites... thanks for sharing this with us... 5 ***** 4 U and filed this vid tro my favorites... thanks again
Daisy. Please give us the details. Im sure there are a few people here who would travel to Cumbria and enjoy a visit from FD. Even if not im sure there's a web based community begging to be formed of people who appreciate the It bites / FD thing. My son's 13 and just like you gets the quality of what he's hearing. Paul
I love it - I love Big Frank - have followed him since the beginning - I maintain though, that he writes better music when he is angry and fucked up - tall blonde helicopter and live at sauchiehall street remain my favourites
Are you a Steve Poltz fan? What other artists do you know about who are as intelligent, and have as much heart as Big Frank? I just found him today on my Pandora Dan Bern station.
I don't have copyright for this. I'm only trying to show people the genius of Francis. The greatest songwriter of my / our generation. If you want it removing I will but if you read the comments I feel people will be missing out. If the footage was available commercially I believe everybody who viewed this video would be more than happy to buy it. Fact is there ain't enough Francis Dunnery stuff available to keep us happy. If you want the clip removing I will do so (with a heavy heart)
well...it would be better if you took it off but he is so good i think the world should share it :) this is a one off though, are you coming up to caumbria in July for his tour? or in October? if so please contact me :)
Thanks Daisy. The Man is a Genius. Hopefully we're going to Cumbria. We booked A holiday to Cornwall last year then found he was playing a house concert in Clitheroe (400 miles away) so , credit card at the ready two flights were booked Without doubt the best night of my life. Tried to book him for house concert and guess what!!! We're in Cornwall again. Oh well!!! Simon
I love the fact that you are listening to FD at 11 years old. Tell ALL your friends how good he is. If we come to Cumbria for the walk it would be lovely to meet you, even though I felt you "told me off" for sharing the video clip. :)
lol, sorry about "telling you off". I play FD on my ipod speakes FULL BLAST at break, it echos through the school. Ive made every1 addicted, im even selling CD's to them :P im a money makin' machine!
My wife and I are very excited to have Francis perform a House Concert in our home on Wednesday June 13th...we are located in Rockford, IL which is about 1.25 hours due West of Chicago, 1 hour due South of Madison, WI and 1.5 hours from Milwaukee, WI. We are limiting the attendance to ~30 people and tickets are going fast. If anyone would like to attend - please email me.
ok, so I'm way too late in seeing this...I'm an ex pat living in Rockton and still gaga over Frank and It Bites...! How was the home show???!!! What an amazing experience!!
I totally loved It Bites (real musicians with serious talent) and I think Francis Dunnery is a wonderful song writer - he writes song with meaning, about life and all. A very cool dude.
Yes its a great song but Id have to agree with you no matter which song from "Man" you mention. However, another favourite of mine, because I now live here and not there has to be "Hometown"
This song is a Dunnery favourite of mine and I really like the way he plays it here - with the Cmaj7/C6, G/Gsus2 cycle. Regarding "Man", it's hard to pick a favourite, but what about "Blinded by the Memory"?
"Man" must be one of the most perfect records ever made.Every single song is a gem.I really like "I´m in Love"but it´s difficult to choose the best song cos they´re all wonderful. The guitar on "I´m in Love" makes my spine tingle.
This was a direct response to the self importance of the grunge era; and, if you were there, at the time, it was a HUGE relief. Used to see Francis every week at Mercury Lounge, and he was pure brilliance.
He deserves a larger audience!
