Once you leave the city, it looks like this for miles and miles, with arrival upon a town only every 15 miles or so - not to mention that each of those towns will have a population of about just 500-800 people.
This video is inaccurate. There's the Badlands and there are forested valleys here and there throughout the State. South Dakota has the Black Hills with Mt. Rushmore. So, the Dakotas are not a total wash-out.

Depends on what your opinion of nothing to do is. I consider land the greatest thing, and ND's got plenty of that. Also, I heard the Bakken oil is way overrated. The extraction process is difficult because they're extracting it from rock, and in the process bringing a bunch of people into the state that shouldn't be there. When the oil slumps people will be out of jobs and the state will be filled with unemployed workers and houses that should've never been built.
I like that people make fun of ND, it keeps them from coming to my friendly, quiet, and calm state. Oh and we are the safest state of all of them. They talk about people not locking there doors. Turns out they mean when there home. My house is usually unlocked, even when I'm not there.
It's "friendliness" is overrated. I was born there, lived there for most of my life in Dickinson and Bismarck, went to college in Grand Forks. You can find equally friendly people in surrounding states that also have much better scenery. Safest state maybe, but also has one of the worst alcohol problems, suicide rate among young people, and general depression.

Ok one more last note; this land was and still is home to many native cultures. Their PowWows are beautiful to me. I won't pretend to understand all of the meaning behind it, but when I see them I have an experience that I can only describe as spiritual.
North Dakota chic here too. WE do have alot to offer but I do wish we had more cultures...besides Scandinavian, German, and Native American...I am all three by the way. Great post!
We are just as much a part of the United States and the world as any other patch of land. I have seen a lot of beautiful lands, but my heart remains here.
We also have some very kick-ass fishing and hunting opportunities. And its not all farmland and lakes, we do have some cities too, where we enjoy the best of both worlds. We may not have a million people in these cities but we have enough to keep us entertained.
We also have some important military bases in our state. And we have good internet access and liquor stores too!
Seriously though, you won't see much if you drive through North Dakota on the Interstates or major highways, but off the beaten path we do have a lot of historical sites.
I was stationed there for 4 years. I loved, LOVED N.D. I use to fish Lake Darling 3-4 times a week. My last day in N.D. I threw 1 last line in for perch, and caught an 11 pound 36" northern on 4 lb test!

Depends on what your opinion of nothing to do is. I consider land the greatest thing, and ND's got plenty of that. Also, I heard the Bakken oil is way overrated. The extraction process is difficult because they're extracting it from rock, and in the process bringing a bunch of people into the state that shouldn't be there. When the oil slumps people will be out of jobs and the state will be filled with unemployed workers and houses that should've never been built.

I like that people make fun of ND, it keeps them from coming to my friendly, quiet, and calm state. Oh and we are the safest state of all of them. They talk about people not locking there doors. Turns out they mean when there home. My house is usually unlocked, even when I'm not there.

It's "friendliness" is overrated. I was born there, lived there for most of my life in Dickinson and Bismarck, went to college in Grand Forks. You can find equally friendly people in surrounding states that also have much better scenery. Safest state maybe, but also has one of the worst alcohol problems, suicide rate among young people, and general depression.

The only problem with putting up a video like this as a joke, is that North Dakota is already the butt of so many jokes and people rarely if ever get to hear the truth about it's positive qualities. Most North Dakotans who love their state are well aware of this unfortunate fact and therefore, they do tend to be a bit sensitive about their state being the butt of yet another joke.

Plenty of tornadoes, so build a basement. Most are in the open farmland. Not a major populated state=lots of opportunities, depending on your line of work, to afford a nice life.

Being honest and helpful only gets you so far. What about decent-paying jobs? Scenery? A climate fit for human beings? People might be quite friendly above the arctic circle, but nobody wants to move there, either, and the same is true for America's bleak, low wage "rural ghetto" state. Ok one more last note; this land was and still is home to many native cultures. Their PowWows are beautiful to me. I won't pretend to understand all of the meaning behind it, but when I see them I have an experience that I can only describe as spiritual.

We also have some very kick-ass fishing and hunting opportunities. And its not all farmland and lakes, we do have some cities too, where we enjoy the best of both worlds. We may not have a million people in these cities but we have enough to keep us entertained.

Seriously though, you won't see much if you drive through North Dakota on the Interstates or major highways, but off the beaten path we do have a lot of historical sites.

I was stationed there for 4 years. I loved, LOVED N.D. I use to fish Lake Darling 3-4 times a week. My last day in N.D. I threw 1 last line in for perch, and caught an 11 pound 36" northern on 4 lb test!
