I've seen drug and alcohol addicts completely recover. I'd have to agree this man was helpable. I belive anyone can be helped with enough intensive therapy and often, not one hour a week. I too have this same problem with connecting with others and find my situation of being single at 35 a direct testament to the fact I may have Aspeger's or reactive attachment disorder or PDD that wasn't treated at an early age.

Is there a name for his emotional disorder? Because he reminds me of myself. Despite being hyperaware of others nonverbal expression (unlike aspies), I don't make the normal facial expressions and intonation when talking to people. I've been told it looks like I have "no soul inside" and that women are scared of my 'blank gaze' which happens b/c I don't know how to make facial expressions.
I sympathise with his suffering, but not how he dealt with it. There is a happier solution I will find it.

I've seen drug and alcohol addicts completely recover. But when you have a mental illness or have severe social deficits and have it go along with chronic severe lonliness and try so desperately hard to make friends or find love, this makes for what I feel is a challenge you simply cannot will your self through. Sad fact, it seems people either like you or they don't and theres not a damn thing you can do about it. Are we a loving society? Maybe one day we will be, I await that day.

I too have this same problem with connecting with others and find my situation of being single at 35 a direct testament to the fact I may have Aspeger's or reactive attachment disorder or PDD that wasn't treated at an early age.

Naw, the natoin and others went broke out of a rule that was used to get us into the great depression and it was used to again and people forgot history and got greeedy. Lack of govt oversight. Some nut out of russia is now saying this Sodini guy was a plot by our govt. Ironically had he been hired by the govt and not the private sector maybe he could have found the scams earlier. To manyl govt IT workers are not as good as those who work in the private sector.

Girls know most guys want us for sex, the younger ones may be more naive but not much. Kids now have sex very early. and are far more experience by 20 than many of Sodini generation. There nearly 40 mil disabled ppl in the US and a big chunk of the homless ppl you see are there because they cannot care for themselves and no one cares for them. That in the end cost us more money. Wake up and live and learn. This had been abondon and had the cops called on him by his church

I identify with George. I live in Los Angeles 2000 mi away from family and women here are cruel. I had an abusive mother growing up and no dad, she hated men and was bi polar. Joined the military when I was 19 to learn what it was like to be a man. Have had bad relationships since mom made me a doormat. Now I'm in therapy and pushing 40 wondering if I'll ever have a normal life, kids & wife. Loneliness sucks, once you disconnect from a world that doesn't love you, u want to destroy it. wont tho.

Not about standards, simple isolation. Read this, you can know a room full of people but if you are raised to not be open with people as he notes, trust me, a lot of ppl over 40 were raised this way, then we got wiser to be more open, then not being able to open up to people can drive you nuts. Literally. Go out of your way today to say to the loners you see or someone on the street.

Poor guy. Most likely had standards for women that were urealistic and set too high. There are millions of weird, nerdy, fat and ugly women who feel alone and would gladly accept him as a partner. There are also milions of average to attractive women who are nerdy or somewhat weird who are just as alone as he is and seeking companionship. The poor guy at age 48 and socially handicapped spent all his time fantasizing about and trying to get younger women who were out of his league.

i agree with this totally. A lot of it has to do with the impossible standards we were all raised with, including the skewed views of beauty. Many of my friends never had gfs because they refused to settle. This creates a lot of tension and ugliness when you think about it. People should learn to see happiness as being more importatnthan achieving impossible ideals.

As a heterosexual male in his mid-thirties, who hasn't yet experienced a moment of intimate, mutually reciprocated emotional/physical contact with a member of the opposite sex (not by choice), I can understand what this guy must have been going through emotionally.
I can understand those feelings of intense anger and suffering that comes from wanting -- but never experiencing -- meaningful female companionship. The lack of that companionship can certainly feel like one is starving to death.
