  • nice pictures

  • Horrible sound.

  • Statement at 13:10 *

"... altruistic punisment, may be the GLUE

that holds all societies, together... " Possible ? Probable ?

  • HOWARD ROCKS ! ! ! *

  • this guy is a genious

  • fantastic! how straight he does the speech, being that high.

  • @Brazlaff What makes you think he is high? He is probably just that good at thinking that you might think he is high.

  • The best lecture I have heard in the last 5 years.

  • Great Statement: at 13:10

"...altruistic punishment may be the GLUE that holds all societies together..."

  • Someone give this man a glass of water.

  • Again, I'm so sorry I was so captivated by your message that I didn't get your name. I since looked up some of your other vids and I must say, you are a very interesting man. But I love this video so much, you tell it, and you tell it well! Thanks, menderfire9

  • Go Ted Go!! I put you on my top 10 list! I will watch this many times, you do my heart good. We who are focusing our lives on making the planet a healthier place for all concerned are making a difference, we do not feel so hopeless. We have fewer eating disorders, chemical addictions, less domestic violence. The key to life is "Togetherness" ...AND WORKING FOR WORTHY CAUSES.

  • So sorry Howard, I was so captivated by your message tha

  • very interesting

  • Howard Rheingold = Genius.

  • inspiring

  • Thanks!

  • it's already started :) welcome to the wonderful world of opensource, web 2.0 ;)

  • the 50-50 concept only works in small profits!!! the altruism decreases as the amount of money offered (1,000,000 vs. 100) increases.

  • nope it doesn't or shouldn't matter. It's still gimmi half or get nothing.

  • this guy is great, i highly recommend his book 'smart mobs'

  • howard, you are the man. ...and this was 2005

  • i loved this talk,

  • An interesting thesis for which he provides good proofs. I much prefer it to Marxist ideation.

  • Read about Ibn Haytham

  • Wow, thanks a lot for that name khalifa987, I always hear people talking about the scientific method as though it were a western innovation, lol. Like a western course on Islam done by an atheist saying that they are in a university in the western world, and that they shall follow Descarte and analyze Islam through the scientific method (as opposed to how muslims would themselves), as if that was a totally western thing.

  • Free-market anarchy FTW :)

  • Nice vid. However, chemicals resulting from worshipping the power of microbes over that of our individual 100 trillion microbe organisation do NOT produce health. SANITATION, CLEAN WATER, DIET AND BETTER LIFESTYLE - LACK OF WAR, EXCERCISE and GOOD PLACEBO THOUGHTS - are what have slightly restored life expectancy from the sub-bestial stupidity by which city folks threw their own feces around for hundreds of years, and even today many people feed their cars better than themselves.

  • Now that's interesting. Someone has finally

realized that the real power of humanity is

cooperation for survival. Any nomad or tribal

member could have told that to the cityfolk

if they had wanted to listen. Good talk and

    a really good idea too.

  • A nomad or tribal member would have said that cooperation is necessary for the tribe's survival. That person would not have been able to say that cooperation is a selfish persuit, who's side effect is that everyone is better off anyway. That person would know what to do, as a black box strategy, but would not understand the underlying mechanics of why it works. This is the insight of this video, it goes into understanding why, if given a selfish but intelligent person, cooperation would result.

  • it is a bit flamboyant for my taste too, but a very good talk, i thought, nevertheless.

  • It's a little superficial to me, to rate someones credibility based on his or her clothes coloring. Even if he was naked on stage, his words would still be true.

Presenting them in living colors and spiced with a few memorable funny images doesn't make a good intention less worthy.

  • You're insane.

  • you have a priority problem

  • dude, you're a 35 year old man-child. grow up!

  • You've got to be kidding.

  • Awareness of an internal process of judging credibility based on (relatively) irrelevant cues is an important step in overall judging. Surely, if a man lectures (in this culture and to such an audience) naked or in orange there is an intention behind the choice of attire, and a community of effects on the audience. I agree with you entirely.

  • I think the original currency system developed as a more scientific method of tracking favors. It links a measurable quantity of a tangible good to each favor/service/product. Currency is only as good as the longterm value of the good it's linked to, such as gold/silver/oil.

  • quite right, and one slice of bread is sometimes worth more than a handfull of diamonds.

  • Way-new collaboration may require a new way humanism. A humanism expanded to be modern and realistic, i.e., a neo-humanism that defines "existence" as the only qualification for membership in the family of existence. This being the (neo-humanistic realization of modern era).

  • very interesting indeed

  • I recognize what he is talking about... Voluntaryism! Next step in human progress remove all possibilities for large scale prison dilemma, ie. waring nations.

  • Foist!

  • shuddappayouface

  • Ahhhh fuhgeddabowdit!

  • rofl
