If I hadn't of wanted to cross the bridge - no outdoorsy type, parent or authority would have been able to force me to cross. I would have shanked it back home even if it was a hundred miles. If the parents didn't like it I would have voluntarily gone to juvy hall.

@Hallamfoebell - much as we like to see them, movies must be a pretty disheartening business for actors if everyone isn't running to you with the best scripts. he might have found pleasure in other work.
@dweebcentric well thats why you have to hustle for the jobs. there is a limitless supply of actors around. There is a finite number of jobs in the entertainment industry.
I don't get Vic... who is vic? Where does he come from? Does he have his own company or does he work alone - does even have a job or does he just randomly go to people's house and recruit young boys to go camping with him?? I just don't get Vic at all. He just comes across as creepy and wierd and maybe even a lil bit of a pedo. What parent in their right mind allows their kid to go off alone in the wilderness witha stranger - let alone a guy like Vic? Wierd!
Something just occured to me: In the first scene, he's like this cool kid reflecting on this camping trip. But whent the trip starts, he's some bookworm-looking nerd. Now some huge character arc is probably going to happen in this movie where his inner cool-dude finds it's voice but in that first scene, he said he didn't want to go on the trip because he was trying to get with some slut whose parents were gone. That nerd at the begining of the movie was not about to be chasing tail.
i didn't realize it when i watched this as a kid... but this would not happen in real life. forget that parents let an unknown stranger take their kids camping in the woods. why would vic ever leave alan alone to cross the bridge by himself? this would be a huge lawsuit waiting to happen.
Parents send kids off to camps all the time, some of them are even these small one-counselor deals with a few kids. I'm sure he had some references and stuff like that. It wasn't just like some dude off the street asked to take their kid into the woods for a week. As for the lawsuit thing, I'm sure liability waivers were signed. Besides, this was just before the lawsuits went crazy.
Actually, I typed that first comment before I watched the bridge part. You're right; that's pretty messed up to leave that little kid there like that.
Maybe he wanted him to fall off because he was sick of him. I probably would have at least considered pushing him off. It really wood be the perfect crime.
Not to mention forcing activities onto kids that don't have any interest in them. Its the same as forcing a person who likes video games, not to do them.

in the 80's, it would be totally acceptable to trust a stranger to guide a camping trip. In the 70's even more so.

@MrTheSwampthing
Surely you aren't criticizing the Bacon Brothers, one of the greatest musical duos of the last half of the 20th century!?!
Btw, great name! I just got the entire 24 issue run of the original Swamp Thing comic book off eBay at a great price.

Ok, who makes a bridge like that? If you're going to make a bridge, at least make it WALKABLE (if that's a word)
screaminghallelujah6 1 year ago
Dont think a helmet is going to help crossing the bridge. I think I would be more worried about falling then a boulder hitting me in the head.
