good idea IMO if you want to upgrade to the new OSX but arn't sure if the price is worth it. You can use it for a month or so, save up some money and either revert back to the old OSX or buy the new one.

And it's pointless really because you can get a free open source office alternative and a free open source operating system with no ads at all..

Personally, since I'm fine money wise, I would simply buy the more expensive AD-Free OS. However, for those who want to upgrade but don't have any money at the moment this is a great and cheap alternative. People on this thread act like all future upgrades will have advertisements on them which I don't think is the case. If that is the case, then I'd be upset.

I guess it all depends how they go about it, if they end up having a window pop up in the middle of the screen while you re on itunes or writing something, for me personally I feel thats too much. There already are enough ads of all sorts of crap everywhere I go I don't need them to start popping up when I'm in the comfort of my own home doing personal things. I also don't like watching TV for that same reason.
This really would only work for upgrading because the hardware is what is over priced with apples. Comparing windows parts to mac parts (from retail suggested pricing). If I am already spending the kind of cash it takes to get a new mac another $100 or so on an OS isn't really a deal breaker.

I guess it all depends how they go about it, if they end up having a window pop up in the middle of the screen while you re on itunes or writing something, for me personally I feel thats too much. There already are enough ads of all sorts of crap everywhere I go I don't need them to start popping up when I'm in the comfort of my own home doing personal things. I also don't like watching TV for that same reason.

This really would only work for upgrading because the hardware is what is over priced with apples. Comparing windows parts to mac parts (from retail suggested pricing). If I am already spending the kind of cash it takes to get a new mac another $100 or so on an OS isn't really a deal breaker.

if they do put ads, i can just see people getting the free one, and doing one simple tweak to turn the ads off and using the operating system free of ads without any cost...
the only way this would work is to make a lite version as some apps do on app store, free version containing less features

Yes, that's a iphone! This is a Mac, and i paid for the speed and freedom of the computer, having advertisement really denies the point of macs. If it did happen i would actually go back to windows! lol
