A lot of the so-called "Russians" in the North (especially) are the Finno-Ugres in their genes. The Northern Russia`s pseudo-Slavs are the closest relatives to the Estonians in fact.
Stop.The Russian people aren't "mostly Finno-Ugric".They have Finno-Ugric blood (not too different from the Slavic blood, though, if we speak about the Finno-Ugric people of the Central Russia). But you ignore the massive Slavic colonization of the Central Russia,which is the fact too. Mari people live all around Russia since the 1st century, Mari are a big nation but called as a minority, they know russian language. Summer is the best time to visit Mari El because Mari perform their dancing and songs. Also you can find Mari in Nizhnij Novgorod, Murom, Sverdlovsk, Chuvash republic, Udmurt republic, Perm', Tver', Samara and others.
