You could say that about any army though surely. My fathers uncle told my of British atrocities and abuses against German civilians in the Ruhr and against some Italian civilians too. Many of the British perpetrators were immediatley executed as an example but its inevitable that if you give young men a gun and power then some will abuse it. Wars merely an excuse for people to behave like animals and do what they want. The Soviets had a much bigger army which is always hard to control.

My comment was not towards the individuals that committed crimes, but whole governing bodies that deemed such action appropriate. The Russians where never seen as liberators. The eastern European countries traded one tyrant for another. That is why Russia was never seen as a "Good Guy".

ha last i checked we were in Europe since 1942, and parts of North Africa. Then operation overlord occurred we went into france, which was controlled by the Germans, Essentially we heavily aided in the defeat of Germany, and we singlehandedly took on Japan, we were fighting two fronts.

It's explained in the sidebar, but these are Algerian soldiers in the Free French Army (Algeria was part of France at the time). Free French troops were commonly armed with US equipment.

If the british had not retreated at Dunkirk they would have been destroyed. The evacuation saved the lives of 300,000 allied soldiers. Without them Britain might have been defeated.

I just question the "right" of anyone to teach lessons of bravery. Remember that the British were beaten flat just like all other armies. Britain declared war to Germany as well as France in Sept. 1939, and after 8 months of war, could only send 10 divisions to the front, with obsolete tanks. The Channel was your best defense

It's exactly what Pétain said about the armistice: With the British falling back their minuscule army and refusing any more air support, France had no choice but to stop sending her soldiers to the slaughterhouse once again - as in 1914-1918.

i just saw this movie, it wuz compared to saving private ryan, well SPV just blew this damn movie away. i thought it wuz really boring, too much talking about a whole buncha nuthin and hardly any fighting

This movie was made for the Maghreb soldiers who fought on the same side as the french troops and the alliance. But they never treated them like equals, they didn't gave them the same gearmaterial, food, days of rest, pensions. In fact after releasing this movie they started a commision to contact each maghreb soldier for his right on his full pension or a family member.

its not just maghreb they are ALGERIAN,MOROCCAN AND TUNISIAN. and they neevr wanted to fight for evil france, they had to because there was very few avenues of advancement for arabs in france and because they were promised some land back from the french

Maghreb means all those country's inclusief Libya and Mauritania. Indeed they where promised to have there land back of occupation after helping France during WW2. Like my father always say never trust a dog cause you never know when he will bite you.
