Ok, for all you assholes out there who think the Goo Goo Dolls were only better then, its not true. All Goo tunes will always be amazing. Its just a matter of how time changes, and when that happens the music changes. Im a real Goo Goo Dolls fan If you are a real Goo Goo Dolls fan you wont ever stop liking what they play.
I can't believe that THIS is my favorite Goo Goo Dolls song. I love Iris, Black Balloon, NotBroken, Naked, Slide, It's Over, Let Love In, Can't Let it Go (just to name a few), but for some reason, this song takes the cake...
I love how they aren't wearing shoes! Nothing says casual like being barefoot (John seems to be channeling Tom Sawyer with the bare feet and plaid too) :)
@lionandthelambx3 If you love it you should ck. out their album b4 called hold me up, but more than anything go get The Replacements cd's: Pleased to Meet Me and Don't Tell a Soul, these were the records that really the goo's kinda lifted to make tunes like this. In face Paul westerberg (ldr of the replacements) co-wrote this
maaan, plaid vest, cut off shorts, bangs through the backwards cap...i wish it was the 90s. i also wish paul westerberg would write a song with me, think he helped with a couple off this album.
For the poster who asked....I had to go back to my old tour book, but yes, this show was April 30, 1993...and yes...it was a late show...the band took the stage around 12:30 am...I'm pretty sure I spent the remainder of the night in the Smart Bar under the Metro....don't have much memory of how we got out of there....or when... :)
Naked is actually played in that tuning... it's possible that he's used that tuning more than once though cuz on A Boy Named Goo Flat Top, Eyes Wide Open, Aint That Unusual, and Only One are tuned E-A-D-G-B-F#
OK, I'm pretty sure I was at this show. I was drunk off my gourd though, as we had just come from seeing Sugar at the Aragon. Can anyone confirm this was a late show at the Metro, maybe in April 93?
By the way, while trying to buy some tickets before the show, we ran into Johnny. I called him the goo goo guy, and we badgered him for tickets. I don't think he liked us.
My all time favorite goo song, from my favorite goo album, thanks for posting! By the way where did you get the full concert from? Is this from some secret video released in 93/94?
lol that was great! this is the song that got me into them back in the mtv days - i wish they still played this song live...i don't think it's even on the greatest hits cd
Really? Who is really under appreciated is the band that influenced them, The Replacements. There earlier stuff is very very similar to the Replacements not that its a band thing, but they weren't groundbreaking. I mean Paul Westerberg wrote this song and gave it to them.
Even so, they still borrowed a lot from PW and The Mats. I am not hating on them, I like some of their early stuff. If your going to be influenced by anyone it should be the Replacements, I just don't seem them as bringing any new to the music world.
in a way thats not fair cause it brings the argument that cause its popular it must suck but i think the lyrics are just as potent as in iris and name just cause those came out b4 internet and stupid mtv got on their band wagon doesnt make iris or name bad a band always evolutionizes ..when i first heard iris i felt the same way as i did hearing this...oh and for cool points i owned superstarcarwash on tape so fuck you if you think im defending something i shouldnt !
@weisguy7 Heck even Name is unknown to some. I finally attended my first Goo's concert a few days ago, the fan club/premium whatever seats where I was had everyone singing and into all the songs, but there was definitely this group of really young girls (probably 12-14ish) behind me who seemed mostly only interested in Iris and Broadway (and probably Slide but that was early on so I don't remember)... Man and they couldn't sing at all when they were
This a rare treasure, i love this song and the Replacements are so amazing too!

Is this song played in a weird tuning like most of john's songs???????? if so what is it?????????
DancePrancePonyJr 3 years ago
I used to just play this song with the B tuned up to a C and it sounded just fine. I'm sure he has some other way of doing it, but give it a try

Such an underappreciated band. The world will never know how good they really were before Name and Iris. Sucks to be the world.

Yeah it pisses me off that people only associate the Goo's with those two songs.

they covered westerburg tunes, i.e million miles away because he was such an influence on them, not because they were ripping him off
