It's lightyears ahead of the old model, but it still looks like they frankensteined a bunch of random design elements together. Nothing really seems to belong. This is an example of why 30 people brainstorming ideas for a car, doesn't work. Ditto with the '08 3 series and current 1 series. Audi and Mercedes have the upper hand on design. BMW x-drive is a dream to drive though.

Before the 2011 BMW X3 came out my first choice for the Luxury Compact SUV segment was always the Infiniti EX35 but Im starting to warm up to the new BMW X3, I still think the interior of the Infiniti EX is alot more refined but the space of the EX is crucially small, the X3 is alot more generous for a car in this class. I really like the new design, the old X3 was boxy and ugly looking, despite the fact this new design looks more of an Evolution rather then a Revolution, I still like it. =)

Forget about comparing this to the last X3- as the last one was a disaster, the X1 and X3 are both undeniably cheap in appearance. Come on BMW, what if I haven't enough for an X3 but want something slightly roomier than an X1. I think an X2 should be introduced.

Nicely done evolution of the X3 line. I used to have an '05 X3 and loved driving it, but it's styling was luke-warn. It drove much better than it looked. The next generation X3 has done a beautiful job of matching its styling to its performance.

8 Speed automatics are good for non-sports cars. I mean this car is for everyday driving, so a 8 speed automatic wouldn't matter much. True, the 8 gears is too much in general, but if you're not performing it doesn't really matter. If a sports car were to have a 8 speed automatic like say the IS-F. It would be horrible. The power band would not be stable. It would produce power then not produce power. Its not decisive on where it wants to be. That's why the IS-F lacks performance.
