Excellent... except for those synthesizer strings - so electronic and artificial; wholly inappropriate for a late XIX Century drama. Was it that difficult to record a simple chamber orchestra?

My college history professor (his specialty Russia) piqued my interest in Russia beyond the stereotypical pop culture image that was a relic from the Cold War. Then I read Dostoevsky and I fell in love with Russia. I love Russian films! I love this film and I am re-watching it.

but their standard of choreography is very low.in that way the american movies are superb.nobody, i repeat nobody in the world can beat with the best quality of american chereography.

i stumbled upon notes from underground at the library. after learning that crime and punishment is FD's most famous work I also read it. i wanted to read more and so i also read brothers karamazov. and then the idiot. very beautiful novel. my favorite. and now this beautiful film.

this is absolutely captivating.....I don't speak a word of Russian BUT reading the sub titles and hearing the words of Dostoevsky in his native tongue is fabulous....what a wonderful adaptation.....thanks for uploading !

Thank you very much! I didn't know this russian adaptation, only knew the japanese one (Hakuchi, directed by Akira Kurosawa). I love Dostoyevski, and if you got more movies based in his works please post, it will be a pleasure to watch them!

Я думаю, что для более адекватного понимания при переводе названия было бы перевести как идиоты - Idiots, смысловую игру Достоевского иностранцы плохо понимают. Как Он оказался слишком морально нормален для общества идиотов сейчас не просто не устарело, а даже очень актуально. Я думаю вы не знаете о призывах Сары Пайлин относительно новой нормальности. Ту целесообразность что она имеет в виду, то при непредвзятом алализе обнаруживаются моральные свободы питекантропов. Кто-же идиот для Пайлин?

Кстати, я заметил интересную проблему в понимании романа Достоевского, особенно у типичных американцев. Смешно, но типичные судят о романе по его названию, они даже могут предпологать, что читать дальше не надо. Война и Мир у них война или мир (а не как у Толстого предпологается второй смысл, как общество) ну а с Достоевским, то им вообще надо пояснять, что название скороее противоположно реальному герою, то есть он какраз возможно единственный слишком морально нормальный человек в обществе.

@320kirill Признаком идиотизма считают какую-то системную неадекватность, но вопрос в системе отсчёта. Мышкин фигура несколько искуственная с гротескно обострённой моральностью, но это ведь художественный приём, чтобы лучьше рассмотреть реальную неадекватность господствующих в обществе стереотипов и моральных ориентиров. Он не идиот, а художественный приём автора. Достоевский - солдат морально готовый стать последним пределом России против варварства и деградации вопреки общественому идиотизму.
