his voice is sketchy, but thats what makes the performance pretty sick,im pretty sure there was alot of energy being channeled to the crowd ,hah thats what makes a live show good..
Singing isnt all about perfect technique, perfect technique can be souless, cedric writes original vocal lines, and does interesting things with his voice..that doesnt stop the fact that he sings, flat, out of tune, switches to falsetto live where hed sing in headvoice on the Cd, major flaws, they still put on a great live show
We are a band looking to make a career out of music. if you want an original artistic sound then we are what your looking for.Our ideal members would be musicians who thrive on creativity and artistic perspective, if you are interested then please reply. we need a drummer or a singer.
what are you talking about?lol he totally cares what he plays. he writes all of the music himself and then gives it to the rest of the players, i think you'd have to really enjoy something to have that sort of integrity. anyway, the mars volta rock!
but he's not fully correct, every note he plays he plays on purpose. He does make a few mistakes every once and a while but he does give a shit about what he plays, what he plays is his life.
I really wouldn't call them slips, i'd just call it recreating the song live.
Just because its a certain way on the album doesn't mean much, you're not the artist that wrote it so you really don't know what the "right" way is in omar's eyes.
I think the album is really just a basic outline for them to stick to.
i saw these guys live and it was fucking awesome. I was getting elbowed and suffocated the whole time but it was worth it. I was about ten feet away, it was balling. My buddy ended up getting the set list. These guys are true muscians. They played only 9 songs, but the concert was 3 hours long. Only the best can improvise like that
mexican is a type of race did you kn that??? like black people unless you're native american your ethnicity is of a different origin then america if you're 'american' im not ignorant you guys are jus stupid lol
Actually if you are born in American owned area you are American regardless of your history. Second your brother must be a genius because no one else knows what the hell you're talking about. TYPE IN CORRECT ENGLISH.
This is one of the most INCREDIBLE ,TALENTED ,groups i have ever known in my 44 years of life on this Earth ! I saw them in concert and I was COMPLETELY blown away ! It was the first time I had ever heard of them and seen them. They opened up for System of a Down. I've been hooked on The Mars Volta ever since ! I could go on and on about them.
I was disappointed with their live show. When i saw them they didn't actually play any songs, they just jammed for 45 minutes to an hour and that was it. Also Cedric got into a fight with a security guard and a couple of audience members and ended up getting booed for the final minutes of their performance.
I'm quite sure mars volta is the only band that even after two hours of standing up listening to them live, I still want more. I really get into a trance they're just mind-blowing
It's alot differnt to watch them live in videos and actually see them live. Their staccato rythms and backwards melodies overload and confuse your brain, lulling you into an ecstatic state. If anyone gets a chance to see them, take it. It's much better to be in the room.
Totally agree with you that's exactly how you feel watching them live I think they played for near 3 hours when I saw them it was like a trip. I was completely hypnotised by Cedric who has an amazing stage presence. Saw them at Brixton Academy a few years back.
I have to say I always get a bit disapointed when I hear them live 'cause I really love all the cd's. But then again those vocals are so impossible :)
I watch this video and I am glad to have something so amazing come from my generation. Perhaps they are far ahead of their time, but this is undoubtedly the most musically inclined and talented band around today.
Yeah, lotta hate. There at Bonnaroo this year, so go check em' out and make an opinion. That's my plan. Now, if there up against Phish or Grisman there out in a blink.
dissonant, yes. poor? that's subjective. i like a little bit of chaos. calling the mars volta's harmonies poor is like looking at abstract art and criticizing the fact that the artist didn't color inside the lines.
English is not my native language, and lyrics and music move me the same way as it does with english speakers. if you are looking for, so to speak, 'meaningful' lyrics, youre speaking the wrong language. it has little or nothing to do with 'what it is said', but 'how it is said', and performed, PopExpo.

This shit sucks. A bunch of fucking noise. No melody. I saw these guy live before and they're so full of them selves, its coo to be full of yourselves but you gotta back it up with good music, and they don't. No one in this band has no self control musically, solo, 2 min drum fill, cedric singing some deep dark poetry no one in the world really gives a fuck about then more solo. When people pay money to see you they don't get there money's worth when you play three songs that are 20 min each.
i would pay a LOT of money to see this live. It's just music you don't understand, and that's ok, but why are you insulting it? I actually did see them live, and it was out of this fucking world incredible. No one's making you go see their show, so why are you complaining?
great video, but it doesn't do their live shows justice. If you see ONE band before you die, The Mars Volta is that band. They'll play 3 songs for an hour-long set. Fucking Spectacular!!!

But thats good man. I knew them when they were doing 50 people concerts in Mexico, and im glad that they are getting fame, even if its from a target commercial or whatever man.
I'm too old to read this kind of shit. The guitarist Omar Rodriguez, if not excellent, it is at least creative, avant-gard, not in the common spot of three chord songwritter. The Orange amps confirm his good taste.

This leader singers squeaky, incoherent voice/lyrics is ***very*** off-putting. Music devoid of harmony and depth really don't float my boat.
