  • Why was this section of the M6 built on stilts rather than being at "ground" level?

  • @lotuspoint It was built on stilts because there are two separate railway tracks going in different directions in the area, plus a water treatment Plant at the time, now all gone, and finally the river Tame runs through the area. So back in the late 60's there was a lot of activity going on at ground level, hence the need to raise the road carriageway above the ground. Spaghetti junction was another in a similar situation.

  • nice

  • Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.

  • busy looking motorway.

  • Yes it's a real mega busy stretch, grinds to a halt most week days in rush hour...

  • Excellant photos. Wish I would of had to foresight to take photos back then 5*

  • Thanks, Walter, the amount of times I have said that to myself..

    So true.

  • Superb video yet again Paul, it's a refreshing change to see something that's different to the norm, so well done for thinking outside the box...5* Bob

  • Thanks Bob, It's an area I know well and it's kind of quaint to see how it all once looked, also how construction has changed in this day

  • Another excellent vid Paul, I bet the planners of the M6 never expected it to take the volume of traffic it takes today!

  • Thanks. Your so right. Amazing how peaceful and quiet it must have been back then.
