@19TommyT74 C'mooon all the song is about plane that droped atomic bomb called littile boy on hirosima at 8:15 (local time) and weather was slear and so on and on.... song is all about atomic bomb and that plane. RIP for those who ar not listening this song but passed away by little boy..
When I listen to this track on my ipod, that little motif which we first hear at 0:03/4 seems to 'flicker' from ear to ear. The same effects happens with other tracks too. So, how is that effect achieved, during the recording that is?
@Potionette81 That effect is called panning, which is when the sound is spread between both speakers or switched between the two. You can use panning to have say for instance the guitar in the track in the left speaker and the drums in the other. This is achieved post-recording, in the mixing phases.
Great talent. First discovered this album by carefully examining the cover of the album first and then carefully reading the song titles to decide if the album/cassette/cd was worth buying...No youtube or google, at that time...
@MrBuglebuggy Lol buggy you wouldn't have said that if you lived through it, the music wa fantastic, and more easy to listen to than this modern shite
@MrBuglebuggy exactly and i said shit talking of the 80's music as being shit, however the shit apparently did not get the shit ;)
first and third shit are you my friend. You cannot disgrace the best generation in music known to man when our generation makes cheap copies of them just to get idiotic fame. I hope you got my point bro ;) I'm ashamed to say that our generation has the shittiest music history known sad but true. or at least just my opinion...
@oliimrie11 lost because of senseless people who unlike you and me (i'm only 18 i'm not that old) who listen to real music prefer to listen to rappers talking about drugs and getting laid with their whores and faggots. i think that answers your question. You and i are the minority my friend. I wish them to come back but given the IQ of the world today...i guess many won't even be able to comprehend the deep meaning of such songs let alone make a hearing wonder like this one.
@Nagato3303 rap is for the insecure masses who have no opinion on life and think "acting big" gives them a status in life ... ask any of the pricks what this song's about ??
@thebaldybishop spot on mate. personally the best music eras are the 80's followed by 90's and then the 60's. No era can ever hope to beat those 3 decades.
@oliimrie11 It transformed into the 90s. Honestly the 80s and 90s where equally as amazing. Plus the 90s was the golden era of action films so that was a plus :D
The sound quality on this is EXCELLENT, probably because they didn't distort and compress to make it sound loud on crappy underpowered sound systems. Most stuff on youtube sounds awful. Did anybody make a song about Bockscar, the bomber that dropped Fat Man on Nagasaki?
i was only a child when my father bought a CD from OMD, and i loved it, as much as i love it now. I'm 15 years old, and this is one of my favorites songs.
This is a superb piece of music.......The vocalist is one of the most professional of the time. The music is sophisticated and the whole thing is a masterpiece.
went to Bristol to see the band in the early 80s, first gig I been to didn't know what to expect, when they lead out with this song the entire hall was up dancing on the seats in the isles, and which a beat like this "what the hell" i thought and joined in. what a show and what a Band.
The only thing I know is that this song makes me feel as though I don't have a care in the world. Thats somewhat pathetic, but doesn't make it any less true!
@MegaCrasher3000 It doesn't sound like a TR606. It couldn't be anyway, because they didn't exist at the time the song was produced. It sounds way more like a Roland CR78 or maybe CR6000. Buy yeah, at least you guessed the right company (ain't Korg or Bontempi or anybody else for sure).
Haha, good point. I didn't think about it long enough to check the release date of the 606. Well, at any rate, it sounds damn sweet... and I love how that intro drum pattern pretty much continues through the whole song, underneath the live drum track. Perhaps the best synth-pop song ever recorded.
this is about the bomb 'little boy' an atom bomb that was dropped on hiroshima japan in 1945, the plane what dropped it (b29 bommer) was nicknamed 'enola gay' who was the pilots mother.
Ask Russians that now live in the west about the cold War, they were told that we the Brits, our buddies in the U.S and Ze Germans were geared up and ready to invade any day.
Much the same as our governments told us about them, all in order to plough more money into defence budgets. devolping weapons that the third world can use when they fancy it.
Governents bullshitting their own people for thousands of years.
ok Teokgaming how old are you? try liveing during the 80s when some asshole culd press the red buton and wipe us all out the song is a warning not a tune for a a game
The synth that comes in at 0:07 is terrifying. Really evocative of the devastation of nuclear war. Makes me thing of the hideous mutants conveyed in games such as Fallout 3.
This song is truly a work of art and may be the finest song of the original new wave movement. It has a relentless, danceable beat, layers of gorgeous analog synths, instantly memorable melodies, and of course an impassioned vocal delivery. The dark subject matter only gives it more depth and emotion.
@MegaCrasher3000 absolutely - us Brits were lucky to be brought up on the forefront of this music genre .OMD are superb and listening to this song its 30 years old this year it is still timless musical genius - went to Polish wedding this year and they used the rhythm for a catchy Polish pop song without the lyrics which they had to do under the USSR to avoid the tag of listening to subevrsive western music and were blown away when I played this original song to them
...a Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber, named after Enola Gay Tibbets, mother of pilot Paul Tibbets.[2] On 6 August 1945, during the final stages of World War II, it became the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb as a weapon of war. The bomb, code-named "Little Boy", was targeted at the city of Hiroshima, Japan, and caused extensive destruction.
