The White Sox's record that season was 56-106, the worst in franchise history. The home attendance was 495,355, the lowest since 1942. That should explain why Comiskey (called White Sox Park at the time) was so deserted. That season and the previous one was the only time since World War II that both Chicago baseball teams wore the same primary color, which was royal blue.
The subway station that serves Comiskey and is situation in the median of the Dan Ryan Expressway opened the previous year.
@lsmftymf And I remember it , too! The Dan Ryan Rapid Transit line Opened in August of 1969! I rode on the CTA's Dan Ryan Rapid Transit Line when it first opened up!
I was 12, me & my friend's use to stop at the local candy store then get bags of cupcakes & snacks then ride all around the city on the Ravenswood having a picnic until the train let us off back on Kedzie avenue stop where we started from in 1970!
