After I first saw Memento, I used my DVR and VCR together and put the whole movie on tape in the correct chronological order. It took hours, but after watching it that way a couple times the story is completely intelligible to me, and now I have no desire to see it in the movie order again.

Leonard tried to cover up his story by making up sammy jenkinis so he wouldnt blame himself for him killing his wife and so he can feel time and heal while making a puzzle to find sammy jenkins. All of the black and white parts should have been up front before the color parts. In the original, all of the black and white parts moved the story forward to the very end of the movie where the color story begins. You should redo this and upload it again.
@TheRuffianCrash Have you seen the original? The story is backward in color and forward in black and white. The point of watching the color parts backwards is to follow the plot easier rather than the original (reverse plot) way. In the original, the story is in reverse and broken up so that you get a sense of what it's like to experience short-term memory loss.

I've seen this movie three ways: The original way, the chronological way (B&W scenes first, then color scenes in chronological order), and now...backwards. What a trip. Different things jumped out at me in each viewing, as the scenes are placed in different contexts. I really enjoyed where some of the B&W scenes popped up in this backward version. Still, my favorite viewing was the first time, in the theater. But I guess that's unrepeatable, unless someone cracks me in the head with a sap.

It's amazing, but when you play this movie "backwards", you still get the color portion in the right order but the black & white portion in the wrong one. This movie is so unique! The ending is essentially the mid-point of the story. Teddy reveals the truth to Lenny, but he doesn't want to believe it. He had already killed John G., but Teddy kept using him. In a state of disbelief, he gave himself a clue that would have him either kill Teddy and continue his search, or just prove Teddy wrong entirely.
thsi movie rocks, i fell asleep watching it and woke up just like the dude with no memory. the phone was ringing but i had no idea what it was at the time. it must have rang 30 times so i picked it up but held it out in the air. only after hearing my moms voice in the phone did i realise what it was. i truly fucked my up i have never been able to reproduce it.
American Psycho is a good movie with a brilliant point, this is a far better movie on every level though. American Psycho makes a bold and fierce statement about male macho vanity expressed openly and without conscience.

Doesn't the dvd contain a feature to play the movie in chronological order? This is backwards but of course the black and white scenes all move forward in time and occur before all the color scenes. In the movie they are intercut with the color scenes. So chronologically all the b&w scenes would be first in order of apppearence up until he takes the photo of Jimmy and it(the photo and the movie) changes to color, then all the color scenes would follow in reverse order. Right?
What's odd if you watch the film in total chronological order, is that the story is so incredibly basic and plain and standard and dull, that it shows that it's the innovative layout that makes this film.

Also agree - if we need to watch Memento in a different order, just show every scene (both back and white AND colour) in normal chronological order, with Leonard acting forgetful every so often. It's baffling to watch the previously forwards black and white scenes backwards and the previously backwards colour scenes forwards.

The ending is essentially the mid-point of the story. Teddy reveals the truth to Lenny, but he doesn't want to believe it. He had already killed John G., but Teddy kept using him. In a state of disbelief, he gave himself a clue that would have him either kill Teddy and continue his search, or just prove Teddy wrong entirely.

thsi movie rocks, i fell asleep watching it and woke up just like the dude with no memory. the phone was ringing but i had no idea what it was at the time. it must have rang 30 times so i picked it up but held it out in the air. only after hearing my moms voice in the phone did i realise what it was. i truly fucked my up i have never been able to reproduce it.

Memento is a great film, much better than Fightclub, it's maybe a bit better than american psycho but not a patch on the machinist.

This isn't backwards, its how the story runs. It starts from the end and plays backwards.
SO when you posted this, I thought you somehow edited it to run chronological order begininning to end.

Doesn't the dvd contain a feature to play the movie in chronological order? This is backwards but of course the black and white scenes all move forward in time and occur before all the color scenes. In the movie they are intercut with the color scenes. So chronologically all the b&w scenes would be first in order of apppearence up until he takes the photo of Jimmy and it(the photo and the movie) changes to color, then all the color scenes would follow in reverse order. Right?

Yes i think you are right. If you own the 3 disc R2 edition then there is an easter egg featurette that allows you to do it.

Right. The b/w "flashback" scenes come first, in the order they appear in the movie, followed by the scenes in color, in the order they appear here.

What's odd if you watch the film in total chronological order, is that the story is so incredibly basic and plain and standard and dull, that it shows that it's the innovative layout that makes this film.

exactly, because the innovative thing is that the audience experiences what lenny experience in the same way he does, not knowing what just happened
however, the story itself in the right order is not that basic, that would be insulting, however, the backwards narrative improves the experience tenfold
