Google will not monopolise the GPS Turn-by-Turn Navigation Market because it is only available on Android Devices, and not even all of them. It is a good service, but it isn't going to push out the competition.

I think that it is good that Google is doing this because it will force TomTom and Garmin to innovate.

@wrxxxdemon people still buy street directories because people are not 24 hs/day connected to the internet. What google is doing is similar to what big companies do when they go into a place where their only competition is small business. They lower their price so much (even if they're losing money) to a point that the competition can't compete and they're pushed out of the market. Once the big company don't have anymore competition they can start to sell their shit as expensive as the want to.

google doesn't go in for funsies they go in an industry to offer a free alternative to the consumer. so that you the consumer does not pay for the product/service but google will still make money from it (i think this is good)

also google will not go in and have a monopoly over stuff because most of their products are open sourced.

personally i don't think google will take over the internet they will just revolutionize the world and encourage companies to adopt their business model

We don't have to trust Google. The free market always provides what is missing. While Google is number one, Yahoo, Bing, and others are competing for search, for example. Also, consider the free apps for iPhone. There are many categories where there are free and paid apps competing effectively.
