Isn't there more of an element of luck to the challenges of surviving? After all, if a predator is busy with one turtle, won't that give another a half a second longer to get past that preditor and on to a possible longer life?
@txvoltaire Luck is a factor, but you need to note that any creature with an disanvantage of any sorts is more likely to nob be successfull.
Secondly, selection isn't only about getting killed. An even more important factor is fitnees, which basically means that the more viable offspring that reach breeding age an organism has, the more fit it is.
Disadvantaged cridders might paddle their way trough life rather fine, but don't necessarily have as many, if any, children.
Even if evolution doesn't exist in the natural world, it exists in the universe:
EG1: SU25 Frogfoot & Northrop YA9 prototype. (There was no influence by either design on the other, yet convergent evolution made them extremely similar.
EG2: B1 Lancer & TU160 (although with these two it can be argued that they influence each other)
I have always been a evoloutionist. I was actually embarassed by the idea of believing in Gods. Like a 19 yr old believing in Santa. Trouble is, the more research I do the more likely the God concept seems to work. Even this beautiful doc has to skip the biggest question. How did the first spark of life start. Go to minute 9 of this video for their major jump from lifeless sand to DNA. No one really knows and in the end some sort of magic must have started it all. Religion still sucks though.
Evolution says nothing about the origins of life.
If one wants to believe that a deity or other force started it it's one's own business but science simply can not take a stand over the supernatural.
Neither does the "beginning" demand intelligence or magic behind it, it is a question of belief. Just that we don't know it yet, does not mean we never will. Neither is it proof for a designer.
I'm not bashing you, I'm just saying.
And believing in deity or other force does not require religion
Thanks for that. I still believe in evolution after that first spark, as I believe in The Big Bang and all other advancement theories. I am trying to find the edge of the universe. No answer. The second before the big bang. They claim there was no time prior. How light actually travels it's speed, again no definitive answer. Even Stephen Hawking tried his best but falls short eventually claiming that we are too dumb to understand so we have to have FAITH that he kinda does.
What is the point of calculating chances for something that all ready happened ? But seriously, don't try to use numbers as creationist always fail at that.
There is no reason why you couldn't embrace your religion with evolution.
Anyway, try coming up with something solid ( that is anything new with evidence to support it )
If creationism would have any credibility, it wouldn't be ridiculed to the amount that it is.
Numerous origin-of-life researchers, have lamented the fact that molecular biology during the past half-a-century has not been very kind to any naturalistic origin-of-life theory. Perhaps this explains why researchers now are speculating that other events such as panspermia or an undiscovered life law are more probable than all existing terrestrial abiogenesis theories, and can better deal with the many seemingly insurmountable problems of abiogenesis.
Even in the case of panspermia life's origin would need to be explained by other means as it would only offer some insight in how life became on Earth. This means that abiogenesis (which does have some very interesting, supporting tests behind it though to my knowledge they still remain hypothesis) can not be ruled out.
I just bought the dvd (in Belgium). Really great documentary with incredible shots!
And it is indeed strange that more and more (mostly American) people are denying evolution... But in the end, noby can escape the truth, so I believe that the evolution theory will never be abandoned as long as there are rational people ;-)
Thanks for trying to bring truth to the world, one documentary at a time. I wish our religiously delusioned folks out there would just watch these and try to understand how life evolved instead of believing that some sky-daddy was responsible for life on our earth. It would save me a lot of effort in my daily grind to unbrainwash my bio students. They have been brainwashed from birth to believe their pastor instead of their science teachers. Sad
Yes well, apparantely only creationist vs. evolution videos attract large crowds. These haven't been up that long either allthough I too expected a few more views by now... I update documentaries not only about evolution, allthough till now it is more strongly present. Perhaps putting the sesponses will work, that's a fine idea. Thank You. There's plenty more documentaries in my playlists and I'm searching for more. I try to get other than evostuff too. Hope you njoy these as much as I do.
hmm..that's weird. Perhaps because there's several clips of this film uploaded within a short period of time, or didn't you get notice from the following clips either.
Somehow I knew you'd be the first to comment on this!
I thought educating people about the basics would be a good idea, besides this documentary shows examples of developement rarely seen in other discussions.
thanks for sharing this! i just love these sort of programs :)

science requires faith

except , I can test my science, and I can not test your faith.
As a matter of fact even the thought of testing or "questioning" faith is frowned upon by the likes of the fundamentalists.
The basic idea of religion is disgusting.

ya DNA has as much infromation as 1000 books each with 500 pages filled with vary small close together words.
There is nothing in nature that we know of that could make all of this information humans can not even repcailate the simplest of dna
all evidence points to a desiner.
the chances of life starting on it's own are
1;4 with forty thounsand 0's behind the 4 and thats is a 10 billion time span lol far older then the earth is today

Actually most evidence is against intelligent designed (husstling, short sighted one perhaps but not intelligent).
And the materials and even simple self replicated strands have been created in laboratories.

don't reply to me with your narrow thinking your silly labortor comment was about ammino aicd right?
if so dna is made up of right handed ammion acid only and the only ammion acid produced in a lab was left handed so you fail but nice try
2829lordcooler 2 years ago
No, it was not just about amino acids. Them too, but not just about them. Amino acids are not the only thing life is made of.
How life originated is not in the field of evolution.
Look up abiogenesis - interesting stuff.

Ya how come you guys can never win in a court of law?
Heres a question. Why do humans have appendix's? It doesn't do anything. In fact its potentially dangerous.

Indeed. At first I thought we didn't have the problem here where I live but I've started to open my eyes to the infuriating truth...
Got plenty of more documentaries to put up too.
