i have a cockatoo and i was wanderring how long iy takes to teach them to learn a new word...shes a girl thats at least 7 and her name is sassy =D

Some birds like to talk and some don't. Some like to sing, others don't. It all depends upon the bird. One woman kept trying to teach her bird to say "I love you" but the only words it picked to say were the husband's swear words when he watched football games on tv. They learn what they choose to learn and it all depends on the bird as to how long it will take to pick up a new word.

I have an African Grey - a rescue bird, who is severely feather plucked. He is a great character though, and like your Mitzy only talks when he's on his own. As soon as anyone goes into his room, he shuts right up. :D Keep up the great rescue work.

It really just depends upon the bird.  We have a male who speaks in a woman's voice and a female that speaks in a very low man's voice...so gender doesn't really matter how soon or how much they'll speak.

Her feathers continue to grow in. Her 'bare spot' is a lot smaller than it used to be. We just love her southern accent!

Mitzy is just one of many birds Irena has rescued. She is also Snowball's "mom". Snowball has gone global & is doing his best to help "mom" raise money for the rescue. I was just thinking if everyone who watched the videos would send in just one dollar ($1.00) that the dream would become a reality. Alone my $1.00 won't do much but combined with others, MIRACLES!!! Mitzy is a non-stop chatter box. She talks more than I do and that's scary! She imitates a cat and even scolds the cat. She will dial a phone and carry on a one way phone conversation.
